US may have killed Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani

His point appeared to be that neither impeachment nor Soleimani as a long term threat were exactly new concepts.

I concede both points, because neihter explains the need to suddenly do this now. I do not for one second believe that its because he's been in hiding and we lucked out and found him, so had to act immediately. Why?

Because if that were the case Trump and his folks would have said so. No, that is not what they said. They EXPLICITLY said that this action was SPECIFICALLY because Soleimani was planning a major and imminent attack.

Their words, not mine. And their words more than a few times.

Maybe so. I still do not rule out the possibility that such is the case. Let's hear from those briefed in the next day or so as to whether that is a real explanation, or a conjured one.
did you expect a count down?
Has he been present in the same, or even similar, circumstances?
you act like he has been bed ridden for 30 years and we just now found the clicker to the explosive device we set under his bed 30 years ago.
it was the culmination of probably years of events spanning several presidencies.

I don't want us over there any more than the next guy but if Iran is going to hit us in Iraq I say we respond in equal measure to hard targets within Iran.

Probably ought to go for the jugular and put their nuclear fuel processing permanently out of business. They cheated on the deal, so we do another twofer ... put an end to the processing and fire a warning shot.

Then why did Trump say he did it because a major attack was imminent?

(I know why. I'm just seeing if you will admit why.)

So Iran says that's it, unless we respond.

Ball is in Trump's court. Casualties? Thay may dictate the result here.

Terrorist group takes responsibility for missile strikes on US base after Trump says don’t do it .. Gee I wonder what will happen next ?

How do you do that without causing a nuclear fallout?

Trump has achieved his objective. He has distracted from impeachment and looked strong to his base.

There is no longer any value to him to escalation. He may well stand down. Then campaign on how he did the first strike and is tough.

Yeah, right.

Then why did Trump say he did it because a major attack was imminent?

(I know why. I'm just seeing if you will admit why.)
because he had some level of intel to believe a major attack was imminent right after one of our embassies was attacked.

as others have pointed out and I haven't seen addressed, flip the script.

US embassy is attacked in Baghdad.
The next day Soleimani shows up in Baghdad with the guys behind the attack on the embassy. Trump knows, and orders a stand down.
Later on, lets say within a month, there is another attack on US assets/personnel.

would you be shrugging your shoulders and saying "oh well" can't blame Trump for not acting?

these are the type of decisions that age presidents decades over a four year period.

It just got real. Iranian forces are launching ballistic missiles at a US base in Iraq.
