US Swimmer Fought With Security Guard on Night of Alleged Robbery: Police Source - ABC News

As the police investigation continues into the alleged robbery of U.S. Olympic swimmers in Rio, a Brazilian police source told ABC News that "one of the swimmers was seen on CCTV footage breaking down the door to the bathroom at the gas station and fighting with a security guard" on the night of the incident.

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte claimed on Sunday that he and three other U.S. swimmers were robbed at about 4 a.m. in a taxi headed for the Olympic Village in Rio.

Lochte told NBC News' Matt Lauer Wednesday night that the swimmers used a restroom at a gas station and when they got back to their taxi, the driver didn't move. That's when two men approached with guns and badges and told them to get out and get down, Lochte said.

Amazing how this has blown up. Just doesn't sound like a very significant incident.

Dan Wetzel nailed it....

How Ryan Lochte turned a drunken, frat-boy night into an international mess - Yahoo Sports

Yeah, it’s come to this: The story of the Olympics, a likely fake claim of robbery at the end of a drunken night of debauchery turned into global story courtesy of a publicity-mad swimmer-turned-reality-TV-star who, unlike his three buddies – teammates Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz – is home safe in the United States.

.....

“We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over,” Lochte said. “They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground – they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn’t do anything wrong, so – I’m not getting down on the ground.

“And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, ‘Get down,’ and I put my hands up, I was like ‘whatever. He took our money, he took my wallet – he left my cellphone, he left my credentials.”

Notice the details. The other three guys cowered in front of the robbers, but not Tough Guy Ryan who refused to get down on the ground. And while those three were cravenly obeying orders, it took a gun to the forehead, cocked even, for him to declare “whatever” and turn over some money.

So Ryan is a bad ass. The other swimmers? If only they were as fearless.

Gah, this guy is the worst. Is there a more unlikeable guy in America?

If indeed this didn't happen who is putting Lochte up to this and who helped him get out before the crap hit the fan? There is no way an olympic swimmer goes to Rio to compete and just decides to concoct some robbery story on the fly.

Mid 180 said that TMZ reported there is 3 minutes of missing footage in the video. Which could make it plausible.

This is still incredibly weird. I want to hear what the swimmers say once they're back on US soil.

Take a look at this video, specifically starting at 1:54. If these guys weren't robbed why are they caught on video holding up their hands and sitting on the ground?

Because they got drunk and broke into a gas station bathroom and vandalized it. Apparently pissed everywhere and broke the soap dispensers.

whatever happened to just going in the bushes?

If that turns out to be true, will their gold medals be taken away?

So what you're saying is those were legit police that made them sit on the ground after they vandalized the bathroom?

If that's what they did why didn't Rio just deny the "robbery" and say those were legit police who stopped them and questioned them that night after vandalizing the bathroom?

Both Brazil and the US media seem to be reporting all of this stuff horribly if that's the case.

Rio is saying they were security gaurds. What kind of gas station can afford multiple armed security gaurds? This is still very weird.

On CNN it says the gas station security guard called the cops and the cops are the ones that drew guns to make them sit down. It appears they already paid the owner for the damage and he wasn't pressing charges. I guess they figured wherever they were was such a dump no one would have cameras so they could just make up a story.
