USC @ Arizona State

Losing 2 players isn't an excuse for dropping 50+ spots in this statistic.

No, but poor recruiting from previous staffs IS an excuse. I don't know if Wilcox has what it takes, but the attrition set forth by Fulmer and Kiffin surely didn't help him. Contrastly, Monte is working with older, higher ranked recruits in a worse conference. His defense is 20 or so places below Wilcox's team of freshman and sophomores....

UT's total defense rankings:

2009: 17th
2010: 70th
2011 to date: 65th

USC's 2010 defense under Monte
total defense: 84th
passing defense: 109th

USC 2011
Total defense:41st(pre-ASU)...bout to take a major plunge...

And do we really need to compare talent and competitions levels between the teams?

Keep buying the hype machine though...these sort of debates are getting easier ans easier with you

Watching the game again and USC's defense sucks. A lot

Half of Arizona State's completions are slant routes and they get at least 10 out of them every time. Slant routes = 100% success rate against USC

USC 2009- 23rd

USC to date: 40's and getting worse after that pathetic job last night.

Whats your point?

Does Lane Kiffin know that you are hiding in his closet?

I have never seen anything to make me think that the guy is anything but hype.

Why should he be any different than his coach, who is all hype with absolutely no substance.

Why there are still slurpers here I don't know. It's a mystery.

I never have liked Monte's bend but dot break philosophy and don't see the cover two as revolutionary, but he can coach D. He isn't the end all, but his name was a force in recruiting. He's losing that luster now because that defense flat doesn't have any talent. Best player is probably Dawson, who they stole because they have Monte.

There is still a heck of a lot more talent on that team than what we have.

I don't think that's remotely true. That defense sucks. Best player is a true frosh, who isn't any better than Maggitt or AJ.

Monte could coach D in the NFL at one point. Even at the end of his NFL days, Tampa's defense was starting to slip as the league caught up to his "Tampa 2."

As a college coordinator, he has been mediocre at best.

I would almost argue that being a D coordinator is easier in some ways in the NFL because every team runs a similar scheme. In college, you have to be ready for different offense almost every week. Monte does not appear to be able to make the necessary adjustments against non-NFL-type offenses. I noticed it during his year at UT, and it probably has gotten worse as he faces the pass/spread happy offenses on the west coast.

It doesn't matter, he and sonny boy will be sent packing as the sanctions are coming to an end so Haden can go get a real coach--instead of the self hype-machine known as Lane Kiffin. One of the biggest frauds ever.

Where are you getting that from? Is Dawson even starting since their MLB came back?

He's not, but he's still the most talented defender they have. With experience, he starts and never comes off the field. Eventually, recruiting to the star counts fails you and it is roosting now for USC. Same at UF.

The problem last night wasn't Barkley. They moved the ball but the red zone offense was terrible.

USC has a bad o-line. Not sure why people hate Barkley, everybody says he is a really good guy.
