Tony Basilio is reporting that he has multiple reliable sources telling him that several USC players will be visiting UT in the next couple of weeks. He goes on to say that Mitch Mustain isn't one of them but the coaches are actively pursuing him as well. He also says that the rumors about the USC coaches being extremely upset about it are true....here is the link...

Basilio is not a reliable source at all. When it comes to rumors like this he is almost always wrong and way off-base. Just like Tennessee was working out a contract deal with Lovie Smith....

You have to be very careful paying attention to this. Mainly because if you screw up the team chemistry at this point, even if they are better players, you might undermine the leadership of this team and the development of the players we have.

Be very careful what you wish for at this point, because it could also affect the guys we are currently recruiting as well.

I wouldn't have posted it if it had come from basilio alone, however his source "X" is extremely reliable and is almost never wrong. In fact i've never known "X" to be wrong and he is one of the sources.

I don't think we get enough to really make that big of an effect Eric.

One lineman on each side of the ball would do nothing but help this team and our players know that as well.

So, you are saying that bringing in better players to a team that has been gutted in the last two years and that has no depth could potentially be a bad thing.

Those guys from SC obviously don't want it enough.

If bringing in USC players kills us with some top players in this year class I doubt anyone would be happy about that..

Just out of curiosity, how do you know who "X" is?

I just don't want any of them, except maybe Ronald Johnson.
Yeah, wide receiver is a huge area of need right now. I'm also sure he wants to spend this season attempting to showcase himself to the NFL having a guy who couldn't get off the bench at Louisville or a rail thin freshman throwing him the ball. It all makes perfect sense.

I am still trying to figure out the reasoning behind thinking that it would kill us with some top players.

If bringing in a guy who can't get on the field at USC scares someone off, pretty sure they're not the kind of guy you wanted to start with.

I got pretty excited about this the other day when it was reported, but after learning of all the misfires Basillio has had over the years with these sort of rumors (I live in Nashville and can't listen to him, nor know much about him, other than his blog), I'm leaning towards the "I'll believe it when I see it" approach.

You have ZERO clue how these guys will mesh with the current team. That is VERY important at this point. You also have to have those guys buy in rather quickly and learn all new playbooks, which isn't something easily done. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's not something that you want to bench someone who has known it for 8 months longer at the start of Fall camp. Just my opinion.
