USC players visiting UT in the next few weeks

You have ZERO clue how these guys will mesh with the current team. That is VERY important at this point. You also have to have those guys buy in rather quickly and learn all new playbooks, which isn't something easily done. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's not something that you want to bench someone who has known it for 8 months longer at the start of Fall camp. Just my opinion.

They are football players, they'll figure out a way to deal with it if they want to win or get a breather every now and then.

Yeah, wide receiver is a huge area of need right now. I'm also sure he wants to spend this season attempting to showcase himself to the NFL having a guy who couldn't get off the bench at Louisville or a rail thin freshman throwing him the ball. It all makes perfect sense.

Speed is a NEED, not just WR. We have to get faster at the skill positions to win, which is something Ronald Johnson could do for us. I'm still not sold that we would be getting any transfers at this point, but Dooley likes to play things quietly, so we will see I guess.

That's not what I am saying. You introduce that USC element again with this bunch, and they may not be very receptive of it. It's really a team chemistry thing at this point.

You have to be very careful paying attention to this. Mainly because if you screw up the team chemistry at this point, even if they are better players, you might undermine the leadership of this team and the development of the players we have.

Be very careful what you wish for at this point, because it could also affect the guys we are currently recruiting as well.

UT is still 10 schollies short which will take a few years to overcome. If they can pick up a couple of players for depth, it will not upset the apple cart. The Vols want to be as good as they can be with such low expectations for this year. Poll 'em.

...and to add to that, it's not exactly a given that anyone who transfers from USC is an automatic starter. Some of these guys could simply be quality depth, role players, or just situational players.

But IMHO, any one of the three I mentioned would be a great addition to this team, no matter what.

I don't like your idea of starting positions arr set in stone. We need talent and we need depth. If current players don't wanna compete to earn their spots or to keep them, we might need a lot more transfers.

Team Chemistry will not be bothered, its not like 40 guys are coming in. The core group is what it is, any transfer is just an addition.

If we have an opportunity to land from 1-5 guys (throwin out random numbers) who could come and contribute, build & provide depth and even earn a start spot, Im all for it, and you should be too.

I just don't think we need to rock the boat, with only a month to go until Fall camp. I don't think it would be good for the team, even if these guys could be better players than what we have.

I've got a question eric or anyone else who has knowledge about this. I thought there was some kind of SEC rule that prevented kids with only one year of eligibility left from transferring to the SEC. In that post it states we are still actively persuing Mitch Mustain. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

One thing that is said some what questions the legitimacy of the rumors is that, Mitch Mustain is visiting Auburn. If I'm not mistaken there is an SEC rule that says only transfers with two years of eligibility can transfer to SEC schools and that's not the case with Mitch. Also even if he could, why even look at Auburn when they already have Newton?

Dooley and his grand recruiting plan. This team is depleted and needs help now! The 2 and 3 star recruits Dooley is head hunting need a little competition.

These guys have not even studied the playbooks, and haven't went through offseason workouts with the team. Now, if you bring these guys who are juniors and let them work into the lineup, I'm OK with that. I just don't feel like any of the guys should start from Day 1, even if they are better talent. It doesn't send the right message, and Dooley isn't one to try and send the wrong one, IMO. I just don't want these guys taking spots, at first, from guys who have worked their tails off this spring and summer.

rock the boat? The vast majority of Vol fans believe we'll win somewhere around 6-7 games. What the hell could we rock that would make it worse.

If a player earns the starting spot, I dont care how long theyve been here, they should start

thats what practice is for.
its the basic construct of a good football team.

How is it any different than with incoming freshmen recruits?

You don't have any concern about next year's freshmen disrupting team chemistry.

They are much more impressionable and coachable coming in than transfers. Especially, if those transfers have been in a college system for 3+ years.

I spoke with someone at USC Thursday and they are not expecting many more to leave. Really expecting no more to leave but a couple would not be a surprise. I would still be very surprised if UT got or took any from USC.

Person is not on the football staff I spoke to but has a very good feel for the program. Of course, things could have changed since Thursday.

how are transfers any different from a Freshman reporting in July?

If a guy EARNS a starting nod, he should be starting, whether he's a Freshman, Soph or 5ht yr senior

Chemistry issues happen, when guys who havent earned the spot are given starting spots. (see Tauren Poole & Bryce Brown)

I can't wait to see the rationale behind this statement.

there is none, that is an outlandish and unfounded statement
