USC QB JT Daniels Enters Transfer Portal

From the USC website:
He graduated a whole year early from high school and started as a true freshman for USC in 2018. He hurt his knee in the first game of the year in 2019 season and redshirted. He is not expected to be ready until mid summer 2020 with his knee. I am not sure why we would bring him in but what do I know.

I am conflicted on this. He was a 5 star, #2 ranked pro-style qb in his class. I think he is worth a look. But do we want a QB battle in Knoxville? Look at Kirby Smart. His coaching career at UGA has been marred by all these 5 star QB's and his inability to develop them all. They leave Athens and become rock stars at other schools. It might be better to just focus all of our efforts on Bailey. Teach him the system inside and out and have one true leader in the locker room.

That being said, the #2 pro style QB from the '18 class is tempting and if Tee really has the inside track he has to at least make that phone call.

His 2018 stats are very unimpressive (14 TD, 10 INT and 60% passing in Pac-12). Given that was his Freshman year but this is also SEC. Unless Tee, who saw him in person, thinks he is upgrade, I do not see anything from stats he has posted so far.

I think he winds up at LSU trying to capture some of that Joe Burrow magic.

As for here, it's JG's job to lose, and just like last year, I think he will. The difference is, this year, Bailey is waiting in the wings. I hope he's ready, if not, JG will get the job back by default, just like last year.

All of this is my opinion.
I don't care who the starter is. I just want him to light it up.

QBs thinking LSU is another OU type springboard to the Heisman and playoffs might want to just observe this season. That one off with the QB whisperer isn’t their norm. Maybe it got the ball rolling with the countless weapons and resources in that program, but this will be an interesting litmus test.

This makes a lot of sense. He is a definite upgrade. HB likely would have benefitted from Spring practice, so I could see the coaching staff being skeptical of how prepared they can get him going into the Fall now. I would think it somehow hinges on immediate eligibility for him. Surely we see one or two departures from the group headed into Fall.

I'm not saying he's necessarily an upgrade or anything, but considering he put those stats up when he was basically a HS senior -- I'm impressed.

Pretty sure we did this in 2018, already?
Former 5 star, "winning" record QB was going to steal the show! Yeeeeeah!

But even that guy couldn't beat out the Bayonne Badass 😎.
Either JG transforms, or Maurer and Bailey take over.
It's never going to be Maurer AND Bailey as one of them will transfer if either is ever named starter. I think it's JG this year and Bailey the next 2-3 with BM being the odd man out.

With Brady gone it’s a different ball game. He wasn’t their OC, but how often do QB coaches/Passibg Game mangers get the top assistant award? He was their OC and it will be hard pressed ever have a perfect storm like that again . Anywhere.

It worked...very well. Maybe he jump started a monster or maybe that hole in the program returns.

We don't have a true SEC level starting QB. HB didn't get spring practice, and JG has hit his ceiling, which just isn't good enough.

We won't even think of taking this guy. For some reason, JG has a lock on the job. I don't think the Knoxville FD could get him out of that spot with the Jaws of Life.

Get ready for more overthrows on the sidelines, 138mph dump passes, and WRs pulling up to fair catch his dying quails on deep patterns. It is what it is.

And its a shame, because we will likely have a true, 1990s level, DOMINANT offensive line, especially if Mays is eligible.
