Used cars in Nashville

My wife and I are doing Financial Peace University. We are selling one of our cars to get rid of a car payment.

I want to buy a used Honda, Toyota, Nissan or something similar just to get me to and from. Want to pay no more than $3,500. Just want a "beater"

Anyone know a good place to look in Nashville area?

don't just confine your self to those 3 car makers, look at the 3 american car makers too,of course it is all according to what you want, take your time since you aren't in a hurry

you should look at the cheaper priced cars too, don't go into it thinking you have to spend 3.5k bucks, you might be amazed at what you can find, especially if you can say cash today

you will probably get a better deal from somebody wanting to sell a car rather than the car lots and all ways make a low ball offer first,if it is a person you may catch them needing money right now,the car lots usually aren't in a rush

but don't have it in your pocket lol just to be safe :)

Thanks! I'm not sold on just those 3. I just want something good on gas mileage. Ideally I'd like to pay around $2,500 or so. Just set my max at $3,500.

start looking at around 1.5 k then and only go higher if it is something you just can't say no to,look at the blue book prices too,so you know what you should be paying and offer less than that, like i said,if your not in a hurry, that helps a lot

I'm not in a real hurry. I will have my car sold on Monday and will probably just share a car for a couple of weeks.

Pro-tip. Avoid any car that had an MSRP of $30,000 or so when new. You may be very tempted by some older BMWs, Mercs, and Audis, but remember these cars were expensive when new and the cost of parts and service does not depreciate. You could easily triple the cost of your initial investment keeping a used luxury car on the road. Further, if you go with a Japanese luxury brand such as Infiniti, make sure you go with one which shares a lot parts with its parent maker. For example avoid the Infiniti Q45 which shared very few parts with other Nissan automobiles. I have first hand experience with those sort of vehicles and they are not cheap to maintain.

Happy hunting.

I don't know sdv. Getting a $3500 car seems like an engine/transmission/electronic problem would cost a third of your cost and once problems occur they dont seem to stop. I know Dave's message. I just don't agree with some things.

1996 Honda Accord EX Coupe 2D 2.2L I4 EFI, automatic, only 178k miles, leather seats, power mirrors, seats, sunroof, cruise control, great running engine and transmission. Great gas mileage car. Only issues clear coat paint is peeling like all of them do, and driver seat has a tear on panel where you get out. Great car, no mechanical issues.

like Nerd-Vol was saying,i think, look at repair cost too,are you going to do the everyday up keep on it yourself or pay have to have it done ?

price some of the usual stuff that a car needs and see if they are expensive or not,I bought a use Cadillac, that i really liked, until i got into the cost of repairs for it,i sold it after several years to get away from the cost, some stuff was reasonable on it and others i was like damn lol

that is all according to the miles and if they took care of the car

take the car you are looking at for a good long drive and then get under it and look for leaks and such

if your serious about buying the car,go to a gas station or garage and get them to put it up on a lift and do a quick inspection for you

you might be surprised at what they can find :)

I admire the concept although I think that credit has it's place in a world of uncertainty. You may die a lot younger than you expect only to have deprived yourself some enriching experiences. Of course if you're an unbridled spendthrift with no willpower then I suppose the draconian method is probably best.
