USU Scrimmage

Here is where the problem lies- if you play in the MWC any accomplishment is null and void in many UT-Knoxville fans worlds. That's why it's hard to have meaningful discussion here. USU fan: "He's a good player" UT-Knoxville Fan: "He's only good because he plays in the MW. He'd be nothing in the SEC. We're in the SEC- remember?" He (Fackrell) is still an NFL caliber linebacker no matter the competition he currently plays.

I've never seen Fackrell play so I can't say wether he is or isn't an NFL caliber LB, but there's proof that guys that play out west can be and are great NFL players. Take Kaepernick, Duke Ihenacho, Orlando Scandrick, Robert Turbin, etc. Most of the time those guys don't get the credit they deserve until the get to the NFL because people look at who and where they played in college. That being said, we are used to playing against the best of the best, week in and week out. That's why the SEC has the most players on NFL rosters. I'm not saying that MWC guys are any less talented than SEC guys, i'm just saying there are a lot fewer.

We've had NC State fans that came in here last year chirping about how good David Amerson was, and if you don't know how that played out all you have to do is go to YouTube and type his name in. So, that's where a lot of this "he's not as good as you think" talk from some is coming from. So if Fackrell is as good as you say he is, then me and every other Vol fan on here will give him the credit he deserves, but until then it's probably going to be as it has been.

One of your posters said Fackrell would start over anyone we have and thats simply not true. And its easy to talk a big game when your rival is Wyoming.

This must be why NFL scouting services and draft experts are putting him as the #2 OLB in his class. Those guys are so dumb.

Do you blame us? You've proven nothing against better competition, and your fans come on here insulting us. I could look like Manning against middle schoolers. Strength of competition does make a huge difference in grading talent.

No one has ever said that MWC was better than the SEC or ever will be. A quality player would be a quality player no matter the conference in which he plays.

A quality player will look like a quality player against equal competition. He will look less like a quality player against upper tier competition.

You made the point I was trying to make in so many less words lol. Kudos.

Yep. Kids ball out in JUCO all of the time, and a lot fall on their face when they jump to a D1 school because competition is much better

exactly and nobody takes more JCs than a school like USU. they sign a ton of them. Not sure what many of them would look like against good competition.

I remember looking at USU's commit list and only seeing 1 kid committed. And it was pretty late in the cycle. Out of 21 commits, 20 of them committed after 11/23/13. 15 came within 2 weeks of NSD. Ive seen some of their fans say that theyre doing well in recruiting. Doesnt look like it to me. Looks like either nobody wants to go there and commits last second because they have nowhere else to go... or the coaches whiffed on most of their guys and just started throwing out offers to fill up the class.

Is there any way we could merge all of these separate USU threads into one all inclusive thread? I'd like to try to keep the insanity to 1 thread.

I think you're spot on. But to be fair, a couple of USU posters have admitted that their recruiting classes are not and never will be close to ours. But that they play well together and are competitive despite that.

I just hope that CBJ and staff are good enough to take advantage of the disparity in talent. Still waiting to see if they are.

One of the JUCO DTs that they picked up only had 12 tackles in 6 games. Only 7 were unassisted. If a kid doesnt do well in JUCO, how should they expect him to do well vs D1 talent?

I forgot... level of competition doesnt matter

What scouting service particularly and what experts? I pulled up OLB draft prospects for 2015 and he wasn't in the top 10. He was rated the 13th prospect. I'm sure he's a very good LB but I don't think he's the 2nd best OLB in the country.

Uh oh....... he better have an answer quick because he's been flaunting that #2 ranking for a while now

I found him as #2 in the 2016 draft
Kyler Fackrell | Utah State, OLB : 2016 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

A draft thats 2 years away... when theres still tons of NFL caliber guys waiting behind other NFL caliber guys. Bama, LSU and other big time schools have guys that havent played yet that will end up in the draft. Those predictions will change after this next season.

I wonder why he came up when I entered prospects for 2015 draft. I guess because as a junior he would be eligible. My bad I guess.

He was 2nd team MWC. I figured with the way they hyped him up, he would at least be 1st team in the MWC.

Wasn't saying level of comp doesn't matter, of course it does. Just saying that even though most of them say that it doesn't matter, they at least admit that, with the of a couple of positions, UT has much more talent.
