UT 4th Best Coaching Job

BASKETBALL

Everyone stop talking about football RIGHT NOW, or HEADS ARE GOING TO ROLL.

:rock::rock: I could only click "like" once on this post and that didn't do it justice so I thought few of these were necessary too.

I must be biased then. UT has more tradition in its pinky toe than all of those schools.

I think UT is the toughest of the "blue blood" jobs simply due to the lack of an instate recruiting base. You have to have a staff that's willing to work overtime to pull in good classes, compared to somewhere like Texas where all you have to do is invite kids to camp to get a top 5 class.

K, done talking football now. :)

They should be #1. You get very good facilities, great recruiting base, and a fan base that has expectations, without dealing with Kentucky people.

You are high. Terrible facilities and the most fickle fan base. Their program is Billy Donovan. They have a ****ty history and tradition and the recruiting grounds of Florida aren't that great of an advantage for basketball like they are for football. They couldn't even fill half the O-dome which only holds 12k when they were "struggling" after their back to back NCs. Both UT and Arkansas are better coaching jobs.

I don't think they should be 1, but the article is pretty fair IMO.

How? Billy Donovan is their basketball program. If i were a coach and UT, Arkansas and UF had openings i would take UT or arkansas before UF every time unless I had some personal connection to Florida. Their fans just don't like basketball and their AD isn't nearly as supportive of their program as they should be.

Hell we went out and built a top notch practice facility and made our arenas one of the tops in the nation for a fraction of what Billy has accomplished at UF and only after a few seasons under Pearl and they don't do **** for their program.

If I'm a coach - that's not the place I want to be. Donovan is paid well - but look at what he's done there. No brainer. Is basketball second to football at both schools? Yeah but at least we make a solid attempt like Ohio state, Texas, Michigan, etc to support both programs. I think after you start going so far south basketball is just lost on a lot of fans.

The list isn't really about who's winning. Which do go hand in hand to an extent - but they aren't directly correlated with which job is most desirable to coaches.

I also find it funny Missouri is ranked ahead of Arkansas when the Tigers coach just left for the Arkansas job.

Arkansas' past means very little when recruiting high schoolers who weren't even alive or were just born when Arkansas won their championship. Their fan support is great, but their recruiting base is nothing when compared to Florida's. Lately Florida has been putting out multiple 4 and 5 * recruits per year. AD support has been fine for Florida's basketball program, and they showed that in backing up Donovan with an enormous contract.

Yet leave him with chicken **** for facilities. And the fan support is terrible. And UF recruits nationally as I said in the other thread so doesn't help the argument.

The fan support is fickle, but I didn't know that the facilities were terrible. Thanks for enlightening me. :eek:lol:

While Florida does recruit nationally, a lot of our signees are local. Three of the four players in the 2012 class are from Florida, and our one commit in the 2013 class (Top 5 player Kasey Hill) is local as well.

I thought UF had a new practice facility.
The O'Dome is only terrible when you compare it to places like Rupp and TBA; otherwise, it's at least average. This isn't football, where the majority of the league has a place that the bulk of the nation envies. The O'Dome is small considering the strength of the program. What's really odd about the O'Dome is that the prime, lower level, mid court seats are rough bleachers that are hard to sit on. Meanwhile, the upper level is chairback. None of the seats there are comfortable, but the worst seats are the most expensive ones. The reason is that they hold events like career fairs and graduations in there, and they push in the bleachers like they do in high school gyms. The concession stands are awful; just the absolute basics of soda, popcorn, candy, hot dogs, etc. The only different item is a frozen pizza brand; I can't remember if it's still Red Baron's. I do really like the O'Dome's exterior and the smell of the swimming pool when walking in, fwtw. The court itself looks good too. But, you'd think they'd have the funds to at least upgrade the fan experience of the place they have - nicer seats, nicer concession stands, renovated concourse...you know, all of the upgrades UT made to TBA.

Our program is getting ready to explode with talent and greatness. Highly recruited players will line up to come to Tennessee. Coach Martin is on a mission and will not be denied.

I just grabbed my Vols flag and the dog and I did a lap around the neighborhood!

Our practice facility is state-of-the-art.

The O'Dome... Needs work. It's not a bad looking arena, but yeah, it's pretty uncomfortable and outdated.

But if the O'Dome being outdated is the largest of our concerns, I'd say the program is in pretty good shape.

Yet your facilities still are worse than UTs, UKs, Arkansas, USCjrs, Auburns.. I don't know about mizzous and a&ms. And can't say in regards to LSU and Vandy.

So that puts you ahead of Ole miss, bama, Georgia, and miss state. Congratulations!!!! Middle of the pack for the most successful team in the SEC over the past decade and a half! What fan support and dedication to the basketball program!

The fact that Florida doesn't have a top-notch arena doesn't mean that they're not committed to the basketball program. Millions and millions of dollars were put into that practice facility that can hold its own against most others in the country. Donovan is being paid like an elite coach, yet you say that Tennessee would pay him more?! That's just ignorant. Who knows what Tennessee would pay Donovan, but apparently Florida isn't supportive of Donovan since he's not getting $20 M a year. :eek:lol:

If you want to see the salaries of some coaches across the country, he's a link for you:

And, yeah, the Florida job is Donovan. But look at how Florida's athletics programs in general have exploded over the past twenty years. It's not a coincidence that this explosion occurred during the same time period that Florida's population also exploded. The recruiting base is becoming one of the best pipelines in the country, and Florida is now the main basketball school in the state (as compared to a program like Georgia). You make fun of UF's basketball history, but isn't Donovan's tenure part of its history?! Recent championships are far more important than championships that occurred over twenty years ago, especially in recruiting.

After Donovan, the Florida basketball program will have enormous shoes to fill. But if you think that Florida basketball will go back to being what it was in the seventies and eighties, you'll be disappointed.

Bass, it's not all about facilities. UF basketball is in good shape right now. It's seen worse days, but right now in 2012, I don't see how anyone can say it's not a top-3 SEC coaching job. May not be the same 10 years, or even 5 years from now, but c'mon, it's a pretty great coaching gig.

I think I speak for everyone when I say Bass' statement and opinions do not represent that of the VN members. Most here are rational enough to realize Florida is a goo job, and without question top 3. Most realize that there's more than just facilities that are involved, hell Cameron Indoors is a high school level gym, does that mean duke isn't dedicated to basketball or that duke isn't one of the best jobs in he country.

C'mon man, please stop, your stance on puffys kid was brutal enough, but now you're teetering on the edge of insanity.

UF isn't a top 3 job. It probably comes in around number 4 or 5 though. UT, UK, and Arkansas are better jobs. Then there are a couple really close to being as good as UF but I'll give UF the edge at 4.

It's got nothing to do with the state of the program. UK was still far and away the best job in the SEC after Tubby and BG steered it to mediocrity - its about the support, faculties, tradition, AD, etc.

The Arkansas job has still held its worth after what theyve been through. Why the hell would Anderson bolt for Arkansas if it was about the state of the programs?

Sorry but when they can't fill the Odome 1 year after a national title season, just because they aren't elite anymore, that's just sad and really shows how much bball takes a backseat to football there.

That doesn't mean that any other schools besides UK are better to coach at right now. This isn't an all-time list.
