UT 4th Best Coaching Job

That doesn't mean that any other schools besides UK are better to coach at right now. This isn't an all-time list.

Both Arkansas and UT have better fan support, better history, better facilities, and neither are hurting for recruiting grounds. Florida doesn't have the recruiting advantage in basketball like they do in football.

So basically - all UF has over these two schools is better recent success - although all their success came under 1 coach.

FSU hasn't done so well yet after replacing their coach who was and built the program - we will see about Penn State as well. If I had the option to walk into any of those 3 jobs I'd pick UT or Arkansas at the moment.

Our practice facility is state-of-the-art.

The O'Dome... Needs work. It's not a bad looking arena, but yeah, it's pretty uncomfortable and outdated.

But if the O'Dome being outdated is the largest of our concerns, I'd say the program is in pretty good shape.

You won't see me arguing that the UF program is in bad shape. I was just sharing my opinion of the arena.

No one thinks the program is in bad shape. If it were an SEC power rankings list then UF would be number 2 with no argument.

When UF won its two titles, I looked at the small, unassuming banners at the O'Dome and wondered about what kind of banners UT will put up if we ever do something like that.

Based on some pics though, UF might have recently replaced those banners with some nicer ones.

1. UK
2. Arkansas
3. UF
4. UT
5. Mizzou (Although I want to put them lower b/c Haith is the best they could hire)
6. UGA (Could honestly be 3 spots higher if they ever managed to lock down in-state recruiting)
7. TAMU
8. Vandy
9. Bama
10. LSU
11. State
12. Missy
13. Auburn
14. SC

Is Arkansas that attractive of a program? I never saw it as such and judging by the fact they went pelphrey and then Anderson they arent exactly landing the big time coaches.

Some think Anderson is, personally i don't think he's an elite coach, and I doubt he'd be at Arkansas if it weren't for his connection to the school. So while the facilities may be nice, is the program really all that attractive, IMO no.

Top 5 IMO
1. UK
2. UF
3. UT
4. Mizzou
5. Arkansas

As MC said, Georgia could easily be top 5 if they could land some in state guys and have some success.

UT has a better basketball history than Florida?

WTF?

Your argument of 1 coach made the program attractive is BS, the same could be said for pearl. How were ate facilities, arena and program pre pearl? So one could say that the programs state is simply because of him, which is your exact argument about Florida and Donovan...

Lol - Bruce Pearl isn't and never was UT basketball - he only rejuvenated the program and reminded the country UT can easily be a force in basketball with a halfway decent coach. Billy Donovan is Florida basketball - look at the stats.

And history =/= success.. although they usually go hand in hand. Florida having 2 amazing years in a 2 year span doesn't make them historic. They were as irrelevant in basketball as there were football pre-Donovan.

And I find it hilarious you don't think Arkansas is a good job. It's the 2nd or 3rd best job in the SEC.. the only reason I could guess you are basing that off is you are looking at it from a current program success level rather than a desirable job for coaches. Indiana was an absolute disaster.. but it was still a top 10 job in the country for coaches.

Tennessee has more history than Florida? :whatever:

Kind of like how Florida isn't paying Donovan enough, right? :boredom:

Right because history equals success? Really? Smh. Lack of reading comprehension sure is entertaining.

I think it's beyond sad you actually would think I was arguing that UTs 1 elite 8 appearance is better than floridas two titles and several FF appearances - honestly that's definitely more ignorant than the sunshine pumpers who think Dooley is our guy.

I give up, bass has legitimately lost it.

Maybe you should stick to posting your attempts at post game reports and pretending you're a basketball guru on here... and anyone who disagrees with you has never watched basketball and should go back to the football forum.

If BTO were spattering out BS, we'd call him out just like we are with you. No offense whatsoever, but I disagree with you on this subject.

It's funny you guys act like I'm saying UF ranks dead last in desirable jobs in the SEC when I'm only arguing to knock them down two spots since their fan base is sorry, average facilities, a coach who is the program aka FSU football, and it clearly takes a major backseat to football... When both UT and Arky are better in each aspect and they started an AD before the 90s.

Pretty much. I'd like to know how you determine who has more history. Must be how famous each school's fight song is, right?

I'll stick to who has more NC's, FF's, EE's, and SS's. Success breeds history.

It's pretty tough to be more ignorant than this:

And yes he'd make more than 3.5 million here had he taken us to that many final fours and 2 NCs. Look at what Pearl was paid for not even a fraction of that.

:)

No one thinks Vandy is a top 3-5 job?
No. Academic barriers in recruiting and small name recognition outside of its core base.

For reference, my rankings would be:

1) Kentucky
2) Florida
3) Arkansas
4) Tennessee
5) Missouri
6) Vanderbilt
7) Alabama
8) LSU
9) Mississippi State
10) Texas A&M
11) Georgia
12) South Carolina
13) Auburn
14) Ole Miss

Bass, it's not all about facilities. UF basketball is in good shape right now. It's seen worse days, but right now in 2012, I don't see how anyone can say it's not a top-3 SEC coaching job. May not be the same 10 years, or even 5 years from now, but c'mon, it's a pretty great coaching gig.

Wouldn't say great shape.

I've tried staying out of this mess because the opinions are everywhere and there doesn't seem to be a distinct few, which is to be expected given the subjective nature of ranking 14 programs with no real "criteria" as to what makes one program more desirable than another.

However, this list looks about exactly the way I would rank the programs if I were an unbiased head coach looking to make a move into the SEC, RIGHT NOW. I think the order here is reflective of recent success, tradition (whether it be 10 years or 100), fan support, and the school's desire to support basketball success.
