but this is not an objective measure of whether the student athletes are actually doing any better academically. It means the graduation numbers have gone up slightly. And by slightly you need to understand what the number reflects.

Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school and one eligibility point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by the points possible and then multiplied by one thousand to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate score.

Example: A Division I Football Bowl Subdivision team awards the full complement of 85 grants-in-aid. If 80 student-athletes remain in school and academically eligible, three remain in school but are academically ineligible and two drop out academically ineligible, the team earns 163 of 170 possible points for that term. Divide 163 by 170 and multiply by 1,000 to determine that the team’s Academic Progress Rate for that term is 959.

And in reality the measure of whether they are graduating is not necessarily, as we all know, a function of whether they are working hard or learning more. It can also be a function of an easier path to graduation than was used before.

Not to say its not better to be on the upslope on it than the downslope. And not to say it doesn't help in terms of avoiding penalties. Just saying that they may not quite be ready for

OK, so who cares if we graduate a bunch of engineers or basket weavers, it is a metric that still must be managed by the AD and/or coaching staff. It is important to avoid penalties such as bowl bans and such. So again I say...kudos to CBJ and company for moving this in the right direction.

Thanks, I thought the 962 was for this semester. Patterson was long gone by then.

Butch said in October we had a perfect APR score for the spring semester. The APR lags one year so this report is for the 2012/13 school year. Since we scored 1,000 (perfect score in the spring semester) it suggests that Dooley's last semester (fall 2012) we had a 924. We would have been toast. Instead the new team went to work and got the full year score up to 962. The 932 is a 4 year average and next year the hind number that we drop from the average is 921 so our average next year will jump to the 945+ range. We're carrying a 909 for the 2011/2012 year so by the time we get to 2016 and that number falls off we should be near the leaders of the conference in our average. Just takes time but eventually we'll rise to the top.

Please, as if APR is any function of intelligence. By seeing some of those schools high up there this data is cooked for sure. My response is dictated by me spending the past couple weeks in Kentucky. Smartest guys were at the distilleries.

It's great that CBJ has been able to bring this up to avoid penalties but for those that enjoy bashing Dooley remember CBJ was able to pull it off with many players dooley brought in. He didn't get handed a high # of CPF and Kifs players.

I know I will be bashed like usual, but anyone that can't comprehend how these factors affect things really have no place to be bashing anyone.

It's funny how all the negative things happening right now are all Dooley's fault, but all positive things happening started the second CBJ got hired.

This wouldn't matter even slightly. Jones can't make them more physically talented than they are. But he can make them go to class.

2012-13's score of 962 was apparently a record high in program history. But assuming that the scores of Jones' teams will hover around 960-970, which I think is reasonable without even factoring in logical further improvement, that jacks it up comfortably into the middle of the SEC. I'm okay with that.

And you need to remember that those same players were contributing to a failing APR under Dooley....those same players that Dooley brought, what's left of them, have now successfully contributed to a winning, thriving APR score under Butch.

Dooley didn't manage it at all. Hence the 909 in 2011-2012
