UT coach Butch Jones expects staff stability to continue

No staff changes are needed. Let them get some talented guys in and then evaluate the staff after those a guys have two years in the system.

Turnover has hurt us just as bad as poor coaching. 4 head coaches in 6 years and who knows how many assistants and coordinators. Dooley had a new staff every year it seemed.

These freshman we have will benefit next year from learning CBJ's system now. If the staff had designed a system to fit our currant players we may be bowling, but next year would be harder by implementing a new system again. It's best to start the rebuild installing the system you want for the long run.

We have some talent returning and lots coming in. Next year will be tough, but in a couple years with a freshly restocked Atlanta pool and time in the system I think we will see a very good football team.

The culture change has started but will take some time. I like all our guys, but many upperclassmen lack the work ethic required to be successful.

Be patient fellow VOLS, good things are coming.

All we needed was better coaching the last 3 years

When is it going to stop being the players and not the coaching abilities?

For coach Dooley it was three years. IMO CBJ will get atleast three also.

If we drop three in a row to vandy all bets are off.

I actually believe it has been a combination of the both the last three years.
Recruiting has not been on the level needed to compete in the SEC. We have had a star here and there but not the across the board talent that is required. We had a staff that recruited projects but then no idea how to mold them.
Then there was the terrible coaching. The Dooley error has been discussed at length. The new staff has had me scratching my head at times. I'm still not ready to make a call on their abilities yet.

Jones answered bluntly when asked by the Times Free Press if he anticipated any staff changes after the season.

"No," he said following Tuesday's practice.

loyal to a fault ? we shall see

North not practicing
Freshman receiver Marquez North (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday, and Jones said Tennessee will use a "receiver by committee" approach to replacing his reps and production.

sounds like North won't be playing come Saturday

Gotta get more of Butch's players in here and in the program for more than a year before he makes any staff changes.

He is trying to win with his freshman... and the rest are mostly Doofus's players (missed on several IMHO), the very few Kiffin recruits that stayed, and a few walk-ons.

The guy seems a bit stubborn to me.

Example: continuing to run his "offense" when we clearly don't have players who do it very well.

I think we had these same kind of threads during Dooleys years. Always the players and never the coaches. When Dooley was here, they blamed Kiffin and now that Jones is here, they blame Dooley. What is weird they even still blame Fulmer.

@count....see what I mean. This one here is blaming both. Only if he threw in Fulmers name he would of hit the trifecta in 1 post.

I'm torn on that. I realize it takes time to get an offense down. Look how long it took Cheney to get his offense going. How much adapting do you do? Does it just prolong the suffering if you slowly implement your offense, or it will it pay off dividends more quickly?

At this point, I don't know if we have the right coaches. I agree with those saying the program needs stability, so it's a bit of a double-edged sword.

I would like to see Dobbs have a good receiver to throw to,he does need the practice

Beat Vandy and Ky he gets a lot more practice reps in before the bowl game.

These games were gimmes to me at the start of the season. This team needs some leaders. I'm not seeing that in anyone.

Considering that some of them have been with Butch for 6 years and know what he's about and what his system is and how to run it effectively, I think he starts to show improvement on both sides of the ball.

Unfortunately, the previous 6 years were against inferior competition and after being set up by Kelly.

He didn't have the players to run any other offense either, or defense for that matter. Besides, he needs to get his system in place. I don't begrudge him that at all. If you go half his system/half some other you wind up with confusion in the second and third year. Take your lumps early and build from there.:peace2:

maybe when our players can run a little faster????

Interesting that if someone crticizes the coaches, not matter how objective that criticism is.... they are going to be attacked for being negative and all.

Those same folks, say stuff like this about the players but they're "positive".

Agreed, Only not a few walkons IMO.... waaayyy too many. 10 of the 70 traveling squad are walkons, including 2 that, unfortunately, play an instrumental role on defense at nickel....not good

Yeah, fire coordinators b4 signing day who have spent the year getting prime prospects to commit . Now there is a move Mensa would sign off on as genius. None of those kids would go elsewhere thereby leaving our cupboard bare.

Saban changed both coordinators after his first year and I think things worked out ok for Bama :hi:
