UT under potential NCAA investigation for NIL

They’re saying someone on UT’s payroll was coordinating communication between Spyre and athletes. Which at the time was illegal.
It was changed this year to be legal.

But prior to this year the school could have nothing to do with NIL. All they have to prove is that someone on the staff was emailing, texting, or calling Spyre to set these trips and payments up. Which, of course they were. Otherwise Spyre wouldn’t know who to offer.

It was a stupid rule that has now been changed, but it was illegal when we were recruiting Nico.

Maybe UT and FSU should tell the NCAA to shove it where the sun don’t shine. Start a movement to use the SEC as the backbone of a new organization. Bring in FSU and other major interested power programs.

There’s probably a hundred reasons it wouldn’t work. I’m too pizzed off right now to think it through but I’d sure like to live to see the end of days for the NCAA.

If that’s the case I bet my entire life savings most of the top 25 teams did the exact same thing otherwise how would boosters have ever known who to help out

Pat Forde is part of this crap. He hates Tennessee . This story was leaked to him and he has put his punk faced stamp on it!!!!!!!!!.
And ‘flew to campus’ 😂 yeah right, where is there an airport on campus, and are people not allowed to fly to different cities? Bizarre.. this would be an easy defense for a halfway competent attorney

Exactly which is why they made it legal. They had to.

The ncaa has screwed up so bad with NIL with no real controls or structure in place. It’s time for them to go
They already punished FSU for a staffer driving a student to see the collective personnel. The whole NIL rollout was a mess, and now they’re trying to punish teams for things that are legal now.

Maybe TN should use this to start a movement with other schools against the NCAA. The sec could be their own super conference and add some to it and have its own championship. screw everyone else

Then they could go after every NIL deal offered before it was allowed. They're not. We know why

Define coordination.

Hey Player X if you are coming in this weekend to talk to Coach Josh while you are in town there is this great organization called Spyre that is helping young athletes like yourself with NIL, their number is BR-549. Call me back if you need any directions to campus.

sounds ok to me

100%. Can’t have violations of stuff when there wasn’t a rule for it. Then when they make a rule, go back and try to punish us retroactively.
However, I don’t think this hurts us at all. NCAA has lost all power and credibility. They don’t have the money to conduct an investigation and to also deal with potential litigation. Plus, each state has different laws
Concerning NIL. NCAA just sealed their fate here. The other schools will tell them to F off as well.
It will hurt us in recruiting. Already is.

Maybe the plane was owned by a booster instead of Spyre. But I would think as long as it was ultimately done through Spyre it's ok
They will be subpoenaing the flight logs of Signature Aviation. Likely will find a donor lent his jet to Spyre for Nico and family to travel to Knoxville. Spyre owns no aircraft but likely leverages alumni’s jets.

I'm pretty sure that's what will eventually happen anyways. Eventually players will sign a contract and become employees. What use is the NCAA then?
