I'd be willing to bet that if things do start bad we won't see Crompton until at least after the Florida game. I just don't think they are going to allow any sort of QB controversey.

I dont think there will be a QB controversy either. If Ainge starts playing in games like he did last year, I think they will go with Crompton as the future of the offense and stick with him. Ainge has a great arm, he just struggles to get it together in a game since his injury. He's not been the same player.

The QB controversy is just a total cop-out by Ainge IMO. He played his entire freshmen season sharing QB duties with Schaeffer and it didnt affect him at all. Now his sophomore year its the reason he played poorly we're suppose to believe? I never did buy into that. If you can't handle competition at your position, then your not ready to play major college football or at the pro level IMO. He just played poorly for whatever reason; injury, coaching, etc.

Cal could put 62 points on us as long as we put 63 on them. I really do believe that this along with LSU will be the toughest games we play this year. A win over Cal will give us control of our own destiny until LSU comes looking for revenge.
I don't think LSU will be the toughest game... They have the most talent but I just don't see that program maintaining anywhere near the same level of success without Saban. IMO they will drop to around third best in the SEC West. 2nd or 3rd tied w/ Bama as just decent. Tubberville isn't the greatest coach either, but he's good and IMO becomes best in the division by default now that Saban is in Miami.

you really think cal is better than uga or uf or ua??? what makes you come to that conclusion? imo i would compare cal to a south carolina type of team, dangerous but we should still beat them.
I would put money down saying California is better than Alabama, IMO roughly the same as Florida (from what I've seen of Urban Meyer) and not as good as Georgia.

Cal is primarily a rushing team from what I read.

Considering UT lost 6 of the starting front 7 I think this match-up heavily favors Cal. I expect Cal to be a big favorite to win this game, coming in as a top 10 team and UT most likely unranked.

UT has a lot of things to prove on offense this year. Its do or die time for Ainge, otherwise I think we will see Crompton early on.
Cal's offensive line will be inexperienced as well. They became a rushing team last year more or less by default because Tedford couldn't get a hold of the passing game. Don't expect it to happen two years in a row, nobody is better at producing college QB's than Tedford. Between Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers, you have one hell of a group of college resumes. Not all of them exactly panned out in the NFL, but it's inarguable that they all had some great college careers.

I'd hope so. I know I'm an Ainge homeboy, but the one thing I want most is to see the same QB get most of the snaps all season, instead of that damn rotation. Ainge can be a pain in the butt to install confidence in, but once he has it, he can play lights-out.

Idaho is one of the 5 worst teams in D-I. Houston is better than Air Force.
I know Idaho is terrible. They just made the jump from D-IAA. And as far as Houston vs. Air Force, IMO they are pretty equal. Houston beat up on a weaker conference... They went 6-6 but their wins were Sam Houston State, Tulsa, Tulane, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Rice. Not exactly a staggering group. Air Force was 4-7, with wins over Washington, San Diego State, UNLV and New Mexico. But they also lost to Wyoming by 1, Utah by 3, Navy by 3 and Army by 3. The Mountain West is better than C-USA.

I'll certainly take Southern Miss over anyone Air Force beat.

I saw the spring game on CSS. There's nothing wrong with his shoulder. What's wrong is between the ears. As a freshman and in the spring game I noticed he throws the ball better on the run(roll out) better than anyone we've ever had. Plus he doesn't have to worry about the pass rush on this type of play. I hope to see a lot of roll outs this season.

Southern Miss dissappointed last season. They were supposed to be a shoe-in for the C-USA East title. Instead they went 7-5, with their only maybe-sorta-kinda decent win being Central Florida.

What kind of seasons did the teams Air Force beat have?

San Diego State was so good they got their coach fired.

I wasn't comparing Air Force and Southern Miss.

But to humor you, Air Force beat Washington (2-9) by 3, San Diego State (5-7) by 12, UNLV (2-9) by 35 and New Mexico (6-5) by 18.

Misread.

New Mexico: Same regular season record as Southern Miss, in a tougher conference.
Southern Miss vs. New Mexico would be comparable to HHH vs. Steve Erkel.

Tripe H vs. Steve Erkel, huh?
Southern Miss played Alabama and NC State straight up on the road. Please show me something comparable on New Mexico's nonconference schedule. Your shilling for teams in the Mountain and Pacific Time Zones is admirable, but misguided.

If Jaleel White figured out how to keep that abortion of a TV show on the air for all those years, he could definitely figure out a way to take HHH. :twocents:

Given that a failed abortion, John Cena, is the WWE champ, you may be on to something.

And New Mexico actually WON on the road at Missouri and Utah. NC State wasn't anything special last season... Alabama was certainly good, but they also beat Southern Miss by more than that 9 point differential show. From that game:

Total Offense: Alabama 470, Southern Miss 199 (Southern Miss only had 9 rushing yards on 23 attempts!)
Posession: Alabama 36:18, Southern Miss 23:42

So that's all well and good that Southern Miss played Alabama on the road. But they got crushed, so it really kind of loses its edge...

Southern Miss was ahead for the majority of the game against Alabama.

A win at Utah or Missouri, when coupled with 75 cents, will get you a copy of the Nation's Newspaper.

9 total rushing yards and over 12 minutes on the wrong side of the possession clock. I don't care if Southern Miss was up by 50, that's NOT a close game.

At least they won. Missouri was pretty good last season.

If you're in the Big 12 North and didn't win it last year, you weren't any good.

Tell that to Steve Spurrier.
Did I miss something? Who said South Carolina was any good last year? Their claims to fame were beating a bad Tennessee team and winning a home game against a mediocre Florida team. Big deal.

Then I guess 5-3 in the SEC with squat for talent doesn't mean anything.

Going 5-3 in the SEC was nothing to write home about last year. The league was somwhere between mediocre and terrible. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt account for three of those wins. No great accomplishment.
