Incorrect. The 9th Ward and New Orleans East will be submerged but neither were occupied outside of some Marines who are being moved out. Industrial Canal is what broke while some of the others are holding.

17th Street Canal which caused the flooding earlier should hold out as long as these storms don't sit over us.

Downtown New Orleans should be fine unless rain sits over us consistently over the night, which COULD happen.

I think the Army Corps of Engineers anticipated this one a bit more. They were showing on television a couple of days ago the ACE installing sheet piles at one of the canal bridge overpasses as an additional measure.

They are talking on the radio already that the game may not be played on Monday due to post hurrican concerns. I would just as well play it and get it over with than to hear everyone try to blame the delays on UT.

Right. What really sucks though is if they install those sheet piles (which I think they did at some places) they then can NOT pump out water immedietly following....so it is kind of a wishy/washy situation.

The winds arent that bad here just yet...gusts get up to 30mph and rains are streaming through but nothing outragous

In this utterly ridiculous and extreme circumstance, I don't think we should expect 100% of our fans to be properly put in Baton Rouge...no, I don't. Sucks and Unfair? Yes....Something we just need to deal with? Yes.
Hurricane isn't coming to Baton Rouge
Life is unfair.
And they dealt with those issues. Before Rita, they had the housing for most UT fans, gas/food/bars for ALL UT fans, and everything else needed for a game. Not sure why that is such a damn hard concept to understand on this board.

I think you better check your weather radar....Rita is going to eat up most of central to western LA...and since when did you become a meteorologist? If I remember correctly Katrina was to hit New Orleans with a direct hit..Instead the gulfport and Biloxi areas got hit with the hardest winds...So while everyone was counting their blessings they didnt get a direct hit,the levee's broke and made that tragedy....The whole point of all of this,no one really knows where and how bad thisbiotch is going to be so why even tempt it?

I have been sitting in my house with the Local Weather on for hours now. I have a very good idea what is going on around the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area.

Rita is going to eat up most of central to western LA...

So....you tell me it will eat up a certain area then tell me not to try and attempt it? :birgits_giggle:

If BR is forced to take on a huge number of people, then Fulmer and UT will get their wish of a Decemeber game. It is that simple.

Many local news people here say that Houston/Dallas will take the brunt of the refugees and aid....thus Baton Rouge will not be the main focal point again of many. That is just talk though.

and since when did you become a meteorologist?

Never said I was...simply stated that BR was fine before Rita to host a game

If I remember correctly Katrina was to hit New Orleans with a direct hit..

Incorrect. New Orleans was seen as a possible direct hit but the last few days saw it generally being East of us. Not very far East of us mind you but just enough to keep from a total blow.

U-T if what you say is true about rooms could you answer this for me?! Why did my room (3times now) and about 20 other people I know who were going and planning on tailgating together all get our rooms cancelled BEFORE RITA? If you know the "red stick" then you know where I was staying originally the Sherraton. Our group was staying in about 6 different hotels/motels. The next room cencelled on me was in Alexandria (again before Rita) then a Best Western in Natchez MS (again before Rita). I have made several calls today (as well as my friends and my secretary) trying to find a room now and NONE are still available. I was told by the hotels in both BR and Alexandria that ONLY evacuees and workers could have rooms. You may live there and perhaps the family you speak of were evacuees but for VOL fans no rooms were available!

So lets say they didnt move it.. UT flys down and it's worse that thought and the game cant be played and the team is stuck there. Then what genious? I am saying this thing has changed course at least 3 times...Would a saturday night game in your opinion be worth the risk? As a parent I sure as hell wouldnt want my kid on a plane if that was a possibility....Thats what I meant by dont tempt it... :banghead:

Some folks wait to see which side of an argument certain posters take, then they start shooting from the opposite view.

That's fine.

People see through it though.

When I know it's happening. I let 'em talk to themselves.  :p

88, I haven't the faintest idea about why your rooms were cancelled. I had heard that hotels were cancelling UT rooms for refugees but the Hilton and I think Days Inn stopped doing that a week ago....I think a few others as well but I am not sure which one. If hotels are still doing that, it is news to me.

I can tell you that when we came back from Houston almost a week ago (about 15 of us)...we went around Baton Rouge, Acension Parish, and even parts of Gonzalez Parish and found several hotel rooms that HAD ROOM and we willing to take us for an extended amount of time.

Not only that, but a group from New Ibera, LA that we met at Brewbackers (right next to the stadium) found a hotel down right off of Nicholson Drive (4-5 miles from Stadium?) on Monday and were staying for roughly 3-4 nights.

If your hotel booted you out, try calling them for information about hotels around them. Doubtful now they will have room but I have seen too many examples of people coming down in the last week and finding some hotel rooms.

Stuck? Baton Rouge is getting some rain and some wind. Nothing outragous. Worse came to worse....they stay the night and leave tomm.

No, I don't think they should play tomm. But I don't think this Monday idea is that horrible. There won't be much of anything hotel room wise. I agree that sucks. I just want to get this game over, beat LSU's ass, and shut up their fan base.

There is a rule on the books that allow a team to cancel a game IF it is deemed unsafe to play without penalty. So UT would not have had to forfeit

I did ask and was told that they were holding rooms for evacuees and workers. And this was all prior to Rita being on the front page. I know what your saying, I just disagree with you. Tell me this. Why in the world would coach wait and fly the team down on Saturday if there were plenty of rooms? Why did ESPN rent those boats to stay on if there were plenty of rooms? There is no logic in either doing so IF there were plenty of rooms. That is all. The simple fact is this. Even if there were rooms for all. Secutiry and other resources would be wasted on the game instead of being out helping people (how many troopers will be at the game not to mention EMS). The game being moved would have been better for LSU from a financial stand point as well. You see the legislature would have already funded LSU for the year. But next year money will be very tight. So getting that influx of Tennessee money would have meant more then and there would have been A LOT more UT fans at the game. I feel for the people of LA and even the players. But I think the AD for LSU is a bone head.

God Bless ya, that sucks.

I would offer you to stay with me but we are down to one level of our house working with the air conditoner and 7+ people in it with no cable

As for your questions, I have no idea. All I know is what people tell me around the area. I think I am giving off the impression that hotel rooms were all available. I didn't mean that. What I was trying to say is that some were available so "some" UT fans could make it. That sucks but IMO we should just play it and move on. If I thought our team would be at a disadvantage because of it, I would be screaming bloody hell but I really don't think we will come gametime on monday.

As for the city needing the rooms and other appliances for other uses, right now I am somewhat on the fence. I am not sure BR will be that crowded because of Rita as some believe. Before Rita, the city has been on the upswing with stores and appliances.

I guess we will see tomm

Thanks but we are going to come in and out. We will just have to drive in shifts. That is a lot less than what many in LA will have to put up with my prayers will be with them. I hope you get your cable so you can watch the game or if not then I hope you get to come to the game. I hope the LSU team is focused and we have a good game. I think we are better than them and should win. I don't balme the people of LA or the LSU team. I just think their AD is a bone head. I hope you and yours weathers the storm with no problems.

Volbeef88-Let me correct you on something. LSU Athletics is self funded which means we do not get any money from the legislature. I do not know or care how UT gets its money to fund its programs. Try and get your facts straight.

BTW-how much did those orange roses cost?

Read for understanding Purplehaze. He did not say that the legislature is funding the athletics only the university.
