UTAD cutting band funding/involvement? (Merged)

The doggie thing was kind of ridiculous, but I agree about the Waltz.

Now . . . The Wizard of Oz thing a few years ago . . . :shakehead:

I wondered what were they thinking with the Oz show.. just like with football, the band minds get it and then sometimes they don't. Get it? :birgits_giggle:

GO VOLS..

Serious question for the band members or the former band members....What is actually going on at the end of the V-----O-----L-----S, V--O--L--S, VOLS, Go Vols Go?

I'm referring to the extra music part at the end. Is there a chant that goes with that part?

It's the students/fans not being able to slow down. They are ahead of the band's playing. There is only two notes after the end of the chant if done correctly.

Terrible. Tear-a-bull.

Now Charlie Daniels Band in 2002, fantastic. Highlight of my Pride career was playing Devil Went Down to Georgia with CDB. I still have my autographed drill charts.

If the balance of power is shifting to what occurred at the UGA game then I may be in the minority but it was a change for the better. The crowd as a whole was amped for the music that was piped in.

When Deanna Carter was there, we couldn't understand anything she was trying to sing, same thing with Kenny Rogers... and I mean no disrespect but the trumpet player this past Saturday night wasn't all that either...

I was there for that one. Incredible performance.

That's what it sounds like to me. Thanks for the clarification. Pre-mature VOLSculation....

On the one hand, I don't care for a whole lot of piped in music, mainly because it seems every place is turning into the same cookie cutter experience. Almost all the same songs are playing at every game now; for instance I don't know what it's called, but I heard a song piped in on TV for the UT/UGA where it's some bells playing (I think they played it on a 3rd down). I hear that literally at every football game, both college and NFL, on TV now. I honestly don't get why someone would want the exact same experience you can get somewhere else.

On the other hand, it's kind of hard for the band to make an argument when they're fighting to play a song like "Livin' on a Prayer". Come on.....seriously?

Here's a completely different approach. If the money issue is really a cause of this, cut the cheerleaders. They add absolutely nothing to the game/atmosphere. Their chants are old and outdated. Where's the complaint for them?

Oh man, the Kenny Rogers fiasco... The rehearsals were actually WORSE than the game day performance. I was embarrassed to be on the field that day. He's had so much plastic surgery, I didn't even recognize the guy, and I used to watch The Gambler at my grandma's house like every day during the summer.

Deana Carter was, what, 2006? Didn't she sing Fannie? But yes, I recall it being barely audible from the stands.

You could hear the trumpet player on the CBS broadcast. Sounded nasty. We had trumpet player from Maynard Ferguson come while I was there, and he was just screaming high notes all over the place. It was awful. All the trumpet players thought it was great, but that was it.

The days when the bagpipe crews showed up were always good shows, too.

Yeah, that was awesome. Love for him to come back for another halftime show.

Deana Carter sang "The Weight" and "We Danced Anyway". Yes, in 2006. I liked performing with Patti Paige and Bobby Osborne for who they are, but I can see how fans with no idea about their significance would complain.

I believe he also performed at the 1980 Bama game. Lee Greenwood performed several times in 1985-86.

Wow, why would an AD want to marginalize a great tradition and limit the use of a key resource of the program?

It's almost like he's a fan of a rival school or something...

Why?

Because the whole AD has been bought off by advertisers.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY folks!

It pretty much is true. They would still march in pregame and at halftime, but their in-game playing will be reduced dramatically.

You mean no more "Living on a Prayer", "Gladiator" or "Immigrant Song"?

Meh....

If the Pride does find itself marginalized during the game, in a way, they brought it on themselves. I'm not a young kid, and I have found their song selection to be incredibly stale.

If you want to be relevant, you have got to change. You no longer have people in the stands spelling out words with cards and people no longer wear suits and ties to games or wear raccoon coats and waving pennants yelling "fight fiercely fellows".

The band, along with the student section has had years to come together and make the gameday experience more envious to recruits. They failed. Trying Plan B but not completely erasing Plan A.

Signed. I don't think there's enough details about what is changing out there but I signed anyway to make sure it's not too much.

You guys need to chill out. It's not as big of a deal as you think. Sousa has been quarreling for years with the athletic department and thinks he can do what he wants, which isn't the case. It's not just us, but other SEC schools as well. All SEC schools are limiting travel to other SEC schools when they play. I didn't go to the UGA game, but someone said that their band wasn't there? This is happening all around the country. Besides, I like having Sterl the Pearl as DJ! It's a marketing scheme and it might actually help in the long run. The recruits now get to hang out with Sterling and others on the field before the game, so it gets them hype and into the atmosphere. Face the change folks. Have a good day :salute:

Its about money because fewer people in the stands so they want other revenue..

On the stupid modern music played if a recruit picks a school that the team suxs but they play rap music then...do u really want him ..

This is hart n money.. If cbj wants to get rid of live band music to play hip hop then he doesn't get tradition at tn..playing rocky top a 1000 times is a tradition....

Also if the band can only play during scores then u wont hear rocky top very often during sec play...lol
