UTAD cutting band funding/involvement? (Merged)

It sounds like to me things have been made too expensive for trips.....not that they have to be... 22 for dinner? Standard rates? Sounds like to me administration and overhead has been amuck. The tickets thing really should be addressed by SEC, kinda crappy to raise the rates on your visiting bands... But 22 for dinner where they going? Whatever happened to the bus stopping at Taco Bell? What I do notice is the band section keeps getting smaller...sounds like it's because costs are out of control.

Those rates are set by the University for all travel, and have been in place for years.

I petition they stop playing Living on a Prayer and find something a little more rousing. I love the band but Come on Man.

That's fine, but I don't think that's the point of all of this. People aren't upset because they want to hear the band play the Immigrant Song every Saturday. This is mostly about "Down the Field". I also enjoy the college football-feel that you get at a Tennessee game with the band playing. I don't want to turn into Virginia Tech with Metallica playing through the speakers, like it's a pro game.

If this goes through, I have attended my last CFB game. I'll not pay to be blitzed with a 'loud and wild DJ" ... ever.

FIRE DAVE HART!!!

Now if you'll excuse me, the sky is falling.

You're excused....but be careful!

This is so true...and it needs to stop. You have one of the BEST college bands in the nation in your stands and you want to mico-manage them....when to play, what to play, etc. That is a farce of the highest degree. Some heads need to roll for this decision.

The SEC AD's as a group want to stop visiting bands from attending away games at all. So far, the University Presidents have kept this from happening...but if we don't rise up as a group...THIS WILL COME TO PASS!

No one needs to be messing with our TRADITIONS!!! If I wanted a PRO GAME setting....I'd drive to Nashville and see the Titans.

Long Live LOAP

I am amazed at the ridiculousness of this thread.

1. Hart is letting Souza know that when he is in that stadium, he is under his management and subpar performances, terrible song choice, and abysmal halftime shows (all of which have become the norm) will not be tolerated.
2. Because of #1, Hart is the man. We have a lethal combination in Hart and Jones.
3. Living on a Prayer is terrible and I hope I never hear it again in Neyland Stadium.
4. Hart isn't removing the band from the games, he is just limiting the amount they play unless they show that they can step it up and contribute to the desired atmosphere.
5. For pulling this stunt, I hope that the Band Director is fired and humiliated.
6. Little Doggie in the Window and Wizard of Oz.
7. We do not have one of the best bands in the nation, we have one of the worst band in the SEC and it is time for change.

This is such a stupid statement. It's suppose to work the other way around. This IS Tennessee and this how we roll. We should always highlight our traditions and that should attract the right kind of recruit.

I agree that the band needs to change but the issue is Sousa, not the Pride itself.

Sousa, the Pride, sad to say but it is all the same. They are linked together and always will be. If Sousa sucks, well, the Pride only plays what he allows them to play.

To say it is a stupid statement? Look, you can stick your feet in the mud and say kids should come to Tennessee because of the traditions we have in place. I agree with that and am not saying we trash long held traditions. I am saying that when recruits come to games it is nice to have a packed student section and a band that, aside from Rocky Top, engages the fans and student section by playing something other than Living On A Prayer. If you want the student section to stay status quo along with the band because of so called "tradition" then go right ahead. I am in the group that is calling for changes, whatever they might be, while also still upholding the traditions we have grown to love.

If you want a less than stellar turnout for the student section to go along with the band playing the same boring songs to attract the "right kind of recruit", have fun living on that island because it is not for me.

Did anyone here not in the band or previously in the band even know the band played Livin' on a Prayer?

Why?

Because the whole AD has been bought off by advertisers.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY folks!

Yeah, just so I''m clear on this...you want me to make a donation, buy high priced season tickets, come to the stadium so you can advertise to me while our team loses? Hmmm...I wonder why we don't have regular sellouts anymore...

The petition information reads like this is an SEC thing not just UTK. I believe the days of bringing your band to opponents stadiums is over.
