UTSA is anyone else worried?

Not worried a bit. MO, as has been written, is the trap game this year; after UConn and before UGA.

I see the UTSA/UT game as Tenn wins by 'out-athleting' UTSA, with a couple of defensive stops by UT. The score should exceed 60 pts. Expecting a 13 pt spread, but I assume a couple of stops and UT executes on plan. My concern would be a last team with the ball can win scenario, which is a very real possible here.

The game after the swamp and the week before the cocks and espn believes they are one of the top group of 5 teams in the country. I absolutely know we are leaps and bounds better and should win easily but man that game just has trap game written all over it.

I have my final therapy session for my bvs this Tuesday might feel better after that lol

No, not worried about it being a “trap game”… here’s why. Did you see the Homecoming game last year? When Heupel says “The most important game on our schedule is the one we’re playing this week.” It’s not coach speak/a catch phrase… the team actually approaches each week that way.

Bet the over on this game. In the end though the Vols running game will put up some very big numbers in this one I think and Tennessee wins by 3 or more TD's. This isn't the Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt days.

Good grief get your head out of the Butch Jones era. There is absolutely NOTHING UTSA brings to the table that should make you even flinch. Those days of us worrying about inferior teams is over.
I’m amazed at the Vol fans that never show an ounce of humility. This absolutely has trap game written all over it. I would definitely pick Tenn in a straight up bet, but the lack of willingness to admit the potential for an upset is astonishing. Has nothing to do with Butch Jones.

Humility is fine.

False humility is not.

It is not hubris, not excessive pride to say we're going to wear UTSA out. And the other G5s we face. And UVa. And Vandy. And Mizzou. And Kentucky.

If you want to practice humility, go ahead and talk about how South Carolina or A&M or Florida might be a challenge. Because they all conceivably could be.

But not those first seven listed. This is not an incompetent coaching staff leading complacent players. The lads are coming out to win. And that's exactly what they're going to do.

Go Vols!

What I have learned around here is it isn’t an analytically mature audience. And that’s after posting here since Grid started in 1996. I used to be of the same mindset and have now seen enough football to know that Georgia State happens. That last fall in Columbia happens- (we were more heavily favored in that game than we will be in this one).

But it’s alright - it isn’t real life - it’s just a game and a source of pride for folks (even those who never graduated from the school). They aren’t gonna by humble or rational - nor should they be- that’s no dang fun. People say we will kill everyone on our schedule - but they don’t really mean it. Not deep down. They wouldn’t bet their house on it.

What’s more fun is this :

VOLS by FIDDY!

And I LOVE IT!!

Under Pruitt it would have been a loss for sure. With Heup we’ve got this.

I think they're probably as good as Missouri is, who did actually manage to hang around with us last year for awhile. Texas beat them by 21 at home last year. I think we'll probably do the same or higher. They deserve our full respect, but we should handle business.

Man some of you are really overrating UTSA. You really think UTSA could push UGA to the limit? Get real. UTSA would be destroyed by UGA. Just like they will get destroyed by us. They deserve our full respect? Why? Because they beat North Texas and WKU? When they play good teams they lose.

Watch them beat Houston @ Houston. Where they fall on the schedule makes them a trap game. They can throw it with the best of them. (Can Tennessee's D cover in 23?) They will come in motivated and UT will be in a tough spot. Tennessee wins, but not by 4 TDS.

The casual fan will see or hear UTSA and say we steamroll them. They are good, and they will test us.
I'm not a "casual" fan and... have looked at them beyond media hype. A poorly coached Texas team beat them by 3 TDs. That was the only FBS team on their schedule. There were a total of 6 teams on their schedule last year with a winning record. They were 3-3 against those teams.

They lost their top receiver but return the next two as super seniors. Franklin was a guy with good speed who could make plays. The other two guys weren't on his level. I have also watched some replays of their games. They were somewhat competitive with Texas while the Horns stumbled around a drooled on themselves but were ultimately outclassed.

The truth is that they are a "good" mid-major program. And that the Vols should monkey stomp them.

If that's even close to true then UT is in for a very, very bad season vs the SEC.

After looking at their bowl game from last year, they lost to Troy 12-18. What makes them so good?
They had a good record mostly built on beating bad teams resulting in the media hyping them. They're a good mid-major. If UT sucks and plays the poorest game of Heupel's tenure then UTSA can make it a game and maybe even pull a shocking upset. The more likely scenario is that UT will stop them early and get up by several scores then never look back.

I’m trusting that our team is far more talented than them and well-coached to boot. We should win by a wide margin and if we don’t, it’s going to be a long season.

Good coaches know how to prepare for these capable yet outmanned teams.
Feeling confident yet poised because the team is well prepared and ready to execute the plan.

Butch and Pruitt had no clue how to get the men ready.
Even Dooley's teams beat the mid-major teams.

Saban learned his lesson about not having his players and coaches in the correct mindset to play like a great team in these games that feel like the stakes are lower, but can wreck a season.
Heupel is a good coach and will have the guys playing and playcalling with an edge and an eye toward dominating on each play. Their offense can score against us, but the defense has to be able to put the game to bed in the second half.
