Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield: Neyland Stadium was 'best experience I've had'

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has started big games at Texas Tech and Oklahoma, played in a College Football Playoff game and won a Big 12 title. But when discussing some memories from the Sooners' 2015 campaign, Mayfield pointed to Neyland Stadium as the site of his most memorable college football game experience.

Mayfield sat down for a Q&A with Athlon Sports for the magazine's 2016 preview, discussing everything from the transfer process to how much he misses baseball. When asked what stadium -- other than Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium -- provided the best experience, Mayfield took it back to Knoxville and the site of OU's 31-24 double-overtime win.

"You can't beat the Cotton Bowl. There's nothing like that," Mayfield said, via Athlon. "But last year when we went to play Tennessee in Neyland Stadium, that was probably the best game experience I've had and probably will ever have. That's a different type of loud. I can't even describe it. It was unbelievable
That's awesome!

No, they haven’t announced that game time yet. They will two weeks prior. It will be either 330 or night game.

I doubt Danny has much say in the TV scheduling but he’s probably got a request in and will be lobbying for a night game, especially if we are undefeated (which we should be).

That place with the new lighting, lit up Vols letters and lit vol fans after all day of tailgating mixed with expectations of a win against a big rival and key SEC east game will be beyond insane.

You guys are gonna be shocked. Nothing any of us say on here or any videos you see can really describe what its like live in Neyland. I wish I was in Cam's shoes with the opportunity to run through the T and play in huge games in front of 100k plus. Insane.

my son says that when forming the T the crowd is so loud that they can't even hear the notes their instruments are playing and the ground is rumbling.

I agree. UF might have two losses though, they play top 5 Utah and UK before coming to Knoxville. If by some miracle they are also undefeated it might be the 330 CBS game. Otherwise it’ll be a night game. No way it’s a nooner.

I agree with your assessment here.

My customer is one of the two large SEC media partners involved here. Pre-Pandemic I was told by someone very close to the scheduler at one of these companies that as part of the contract CBS has first choice of which game they put as their SEC game of the week.

After CBS choses, the ESPN scheduler decides which SEC games will be broadcast on which ABC/ESPN property and at what time.

The broadcaster and time will depend on how big of a game CBS then ESPN thinks it is based on the schedules and protentional for Drama (Closing Down of Cumberland Blvd).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the UT athletic dept usually provides recruits/commits with 2-4 tickets to just about any game they want to attend. I've seen softball and soccer commits with field badges that let them on the field prior to the game.

I think your right
