‘23 VA ATH Cameron Seldon (Tennessee Commit)

I think they work him in with special plays. If for nothing else but to show other recruits what they can do with his skill set. Excited to see what they come up with.
He’s an X factor. He presents too many matchup problems for opposing defenses to attempt a redshirt to preserve a season of eligibility he most likely isn’t going to need imo.

Yeah I feel everybody wants to see Nico and so do I but like someone mentioned if Joe stays healthy and doing good we probably won't see Nico too much. But I'm looking at Cam, Carter and Herring to show out this season. But who knows I'm rooting for whoever does.
I kinda forgot to think about Nico in the question. I just assumed he wouldn't be on the field much. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do, but I don't think he'll see reps against the 1st string defenses like Cam & some others will. He'll probably start a game or two though, hopefully no more.

Also, it's in his benefit that he can play WR & rb, with the fast pace offense/no sub offense. Going from RB one play to slot the next really should open a few reps for him.

True but you could also play him a ton at the end in 4 blowout games and redshirt him. I'm not saying this is the plan, just an idea assuming nobody gets hurt... but Jabari Small has always had some shoulder problems
I think he’s our RB3 at the least by the end of the season. He’s just as fast as Sampson and Wright, but he’s bigger and can be flexed out wide or play in the slot. He’s already the most talented in the room. He just needs to learn the offense/pass pro and adjust to the speed of the game

Yes but is it worth it to waste the redshirt for 2 or 3 plays per game
Explosive plays that push the overall machine? Hell yeah! And it’s not a “waste” to use your talent. Redshirt doesn’t go away if it’s not utilized first year. Say he gets injured in year 2 or 3? It adds an option.

Which freshman do yall think and think majority people are looking forward to seeing this season? And which do yall think will really have a impact this season?
I’d lean toward Matthews. Cam or Arion Carter showing out early would be gravy on biscuits that are already pretty damn good with just butter. Secondary is a real need. The time is coming for all of them though; can’t wait to see Sham Umarov pancaking someone en route to Cam taking it to the house in a year or two!

Matthews has a really hard road to major playing time this fall. You have D. Slaughter returning and will be at CB full time now. Then you have Hadden, Turnage, and Burrell who are all returning seniors plus the edition of Gabe Jeudy-Lally. That's a lot of experience and depth to have to overcome in just the senior class. You also have Dee Williams who could wind up as a major depth piece at CB this fall in that senior class as well.

I personally think Gibson is a better corner than Matthews anyway. I think either could see a nice chunk of playing time though. We have a lot of bodies at corner with experience, but outside of Slaughter, GJL, and maybe Turnage at the star I don’t have a whole lot of confidence that they’ll be the caliber of corner that we’ll need to take that next step defensively

They are all seniors and all went through spring practice healthy, for the most part. That's something that didn't happen heading into the 2022 season. Turnage didn't play any at the star position last year. They kept him at CB exclusively. I think our secondary will surprise this year, but not because of the freshmen. Hadden has reportedly had a tremendous off season. I know we get excited about the newcomers, but there's just too many SEC ready bodies to overcome this fall, and that's not a bad thing.

I agree the culture is set for development and we have alot of competition and experience… the secondary knows they need to improve and knows they will get tested early and often but I think they will be much better this year… the entire 3 deep returns in the secondary with the addition of some talented freshman and GJL there is no option but to improve.

Need the pass rush to step up without all the blitzing we did last year.
