Then we have to be better.
People forget how good UNC was when Tennessee was dominating in the 90s. In 1997 they went 11-1 and finished #4 in the AP Poll. That same year was Peyton’s senior season where we won the SEC. think Mack was their coach then too. As good of a class they have, we could (and should) end up with one just as good, if not better.
I agree but why can't it be Miami and FSU like it should. Would hurt UF, two birds one stone. FSU and Miami need to get their **** together
macks' ability to recruit was never the issue. at UNC the first time nor at TX.I still can't wrap my head around unc recruiting this well and better than we have in any recent time. Never seen a 92 average beside our name with 15+ commits. Why cant we? The world is upside down. Maybe after a big season we catapult upward

and UNC is in a unique position to sell opportunity. if you're looking at the ACC and trying to get kids, especially in a cycle where your in state crop is really, really good, the easiest thing there is to point to is that there's currently no realistic challenger to Clemson in the ACC....so why not UNC? FSU, MIami, VT, PItt, UVA, etc...none of htem are "there". so what makes any of them different than UNC at this poitn?
one, maybe 2, classes could catapault a program in the ACC to the #2 spot quick. you can win that division. you can, on paper, challenge Clemson almost immediately....and you get all the recognition and attention that spot warrants. you're probably gonna be ranked, you're probably gonna have a shot at a NY6 bowl, and if you do happen to win 1 of 2 games against Clemson, you're basically 1 game from the playoffs, and all the recognition and attention that warrants.
UNC is a national brand....
they do not have history, tradition or a football fanbase like the SEC does. they pretty much have everything else.
i'm not surprised one bit....perfect storm.....
we have hte same challenges we've always had....UF, UGA, Bama....and our last 12 years....if we're gonna do it, it's gonna be because we broke out and did some things most think we can't. that's why i compare where we are right now as a program to where we were in the early/mid 80's.....and i think if we can get there, we can stay there a while again, just like we did from about 85 til about 2004.....
UNC's run has a shelf life.....and keep in mind, they haven't actually had their "run" yet...and Mack isn't going to coach forever.....i'd say UNC's in for a nice 4-6 year run here....past that? we'll see.

technically, they challenged them last year.....shoudl be better this year.....Good post. It’s been baffling that a school with their brand and resources have been so mediocre in a weak league.
IMO UNC is still at least 2-3 years from truly challenging Clemson as they have to develop the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Got tons of talent coming in and a winner at QB, however it’s still a line of scrimmage game.
I think the difference for 2020 is in the trenches. Currently, OU has us beat at the skill positions. The secondary is likely a push. But in the trenches is where we "should" really control the game. We should have one of the best OLs in the country next year. We are returning every starter and possibly (likely) have Cade Mays added to it if the waiver is approved. That's a ton of experience on an OL that was pretty good in it's own right last year. And we have a bunch of quality deoth as well. OU also lost their best DL to the draft and LSU completely owned that DL during the playoffs. Granted, LSU was loaded on the OL last year with several 2020 and future draft picks, but our 2020 starting OL likely has at least 4 future draft picks as well. Looks very good here.
Defensively, our DL was our biggest improvement as the year went on, and we return every player, along with getting Gooden back. OU also returns an experienced OL with at least a couple of future NFL draft picks, but they were manhandled vs LSU. Again, it's hard to compare our talent to LSU in that regard, but we are VERY deep and experienced at DL in 2020. I like our odds here as well.
