Riley is know for elite defenses? Here are his defenses ranked
2017- 68
2018- 101
2019- 64
2020- 28 (Flu year)
2021- 60
2022- 94
This isn’t anywhere in the stratosphere of elite. Let’s address your other claim about Riley and USC putting guys in the league.
2018- Riley had zero LBs drafted, USC had 1
2019- Riley had zero LBs drafted, USC had 1
2020- Riley had 1, USC had zero
2021- Riley had zero, USC had zero
2022- Riley had 1
I mean there isn’t some huge record of Riley and USC just putting LBs in the league at a high rate.
Well he ain't done yet, but still he started, became a team leader and some within the program argued that he's better than Beasley. Not hard to argue his ability and leadership to the linebacking room and beyond could make him an essential piece to a championship puzzle.I know he wasn’t recruited as a cheerleader, but his medical history is well known. It was a strong possibility he wouldn’t give us a full season. So it was a consideration that his leadership and football smarts would merit the risk…and it wasn’t a doomsday scenario. If his body didn’t break down, he would’ve most likely started and produced, but he was never a FINAL PIECE to deliver a championship imo.
I don’t know anybody on the record saying that he was better than Beasley. He had impressed VQ in their reports, but listed as a pleasant surprise. We beat Bama with Beasley and…Banks. I believe in Herring, Carter, Perry and Telander, but he's a guy you really want on the field if you want to take down Bama and UGA. Not to say we can't beat them without him, but it's nice to have a smart 240 pound athletic 25 year old LB in those types of games.
I still think we have a better group of LB's than we did last year.
Heard it from Ainge that they were at least equal in camp, that Pili was arguably better and that some vol coach said he would have been a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick this year had he played for someone like Bama.I don’t know anybody on the record saying that he was better than Beasley. Grade of slaw with Ainge. Love the guy, but he’s Basillio level with the INFORMATION based on a glimpse.Heard it from Ainge that they were at least equal in camp, that Pili was arguably better and that some vol coach said he would have been a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick this year had he played for someone like Bama.
He backed that up Saturday, dude looked really fast, was calling the plays on D, read and reacted to things immediately. I was like "damn he is legit! Yay we got him and Beasley looks better too!" Looking like one of the better LB tandems out there.
Herring was really impressive though, I think he might at the very least be as good as Banks was last year. Carter is massive lol and if Kalib Perry can at least be Solon Page as our 4th LB we are totally fine.
So a former Vol and NFL QB who sits at a practice, comes back and reports what he saw is the same as some weird blowhard from Pennsylvania hearing second or third hand whispers?Grade of slaw with Ainge. Love the guy, but he’s Basillio level with the INFORMATION based on a glimpse.
Not “randomly”…determined effort. I’m sure he didn’t think he was overhyping what he glimpsed. Can you break down all the bigness, fastness, smartness and leaderness you managed to view in a quarter that netted four tackles? I heard his name but didn’t see Mike Singletary. So a former Vol and NFL QB who sits at a practice, comes back and reports what he saw is the same as some weird blowhard from Pennsylvania hearing second or third hand whispers?
So Ainge went on the air and just randomly decided to make up crap about Keenan Pili being really big, fast, smart and a team leader? Sure seems on point after Pili went out there, was big, fast, smart and a team leader and backed up pretty much everything he said.
I mean I'm pretty certain he went to two practices in the fall and one in the spring. Hardly a "glimpse" don't be silly. Not “randomly”…determined effort. Herculean effort being able to “watch film” on a television screen for a quarter and discern all that. My FILM breakdown skills are nowhere near as sophisticated. I heard his name for a quarter and then it stopped…and I heard Herrings when I wasn’t hearing Beasley’s with no discernible dip in performance. This forces me not to appreciate the loss of a generational talent we had for one quarter. Guess I gotta listen to Ainge from Monday and let him illustrate how it ain’t no good no more.I mean I'm pretty certain he went to two practices in the fall and one in the spring. Heupel seemed to vouch for his leadership by mentioning it in vol calls, echoing what Ainge said he witnessed. Pili breaking the team down, coaching guys up etc. I was skeptical of what Ainge said at first, because I watched some BYU film of him from last year and two years ago and he looked slow to me and not very physical. But he's obviously changed his body and moved a lot better out there. (Two years removed from ACL tear) Heup also mentioned that he was a lot more athletic than they thought he was, which is what I learned Saturday.
He played in 3 quarters
As for the game breakdown, I did watch every snap he played earlier and he appears to call most of the plays, lines others up at times, when the ball is snapped he doesn't hesitate, recognizes exactly what he needs to do immediately. Never out of position. As for speed you get to see it almost immediately on UVA's second drive where he tracks down two UVA ball carriers right at the line of scrimmage for a couple really nice tackles. Definitely looks pretty fast there and pretty much does all those things I mentioned throughout. Maybe takes a bad angle and gets blocked once in the 3rd quarter? He graded out well pff wise.
Sure seems like Ainge was on the money there. Not the most glorious of gametape, but he did everything you'd want and since the entire defense was flying all over the field in their destruction of UVA's offense everybody was getting there's, so there really wasn't that many opportunities for the LB's to make that many plays. Idk go look at the film and tell me I'm wrong.
this. He and his family have seen tons of videos about our atmosphere but have never experienced it and they definitely want to do so. I sure hope he makes it in. It's about 4 hour drive to Knoxville from Salem.IF he makes it in, he'll be here for the game, and witnessing a gameday atmosphere is probably the most important part of the visit. He's been here before. He's seen the campus, talked to the coaches, knows everything else we have to offer. But he hasn't experienced gameday. So hopefully the fans show out and he gets to experience the magic of gameday on Rocky Top.
