'24 VA RB Peyton Lewis (Tennessee)

RB Peyton Lewis (6-1 190) of Salem, VA said Wednesday night he has made a decision on his college choice and plans to announce that choice on May 27th. Lewis had a final six of USC, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Penn State and Florida. Lewis had set official visits to USC June 9th and Tennessee June 23rd, but he said there’s no reason to take any more visits or wait any longer on his decision.

Lewis unofficially visited all of his top schools except Florida, and the one he settled on had several factors that stood out to him. “The impact that the coaches and everybody else a part of the program had on me and my family,” Lewis said. “I have been in and out of this state, and it was kind of second home for me. I was really surrounded by great people and had great experiences when I’ve been up there. It was kind of one of those places that was already a second home for me.”

Lewis said he told the coaches at his chosen school of his plans to commit, and they came back with a plan for him. “Originally I was probably going to do it and make it public sooner, but this school actually suggested, because they have an event coming up, that I would go to the event, go there with other guys that are committed and other people that they feel are about to commit, too,” Lewis said. “They said I could go to that event and that’s when they would make it public.”

Assuming Tennessee is his pick, recruits seem impressed and honored that staff took the time to prepare and share their personal plan for them. I'm not in on generic processes, but I don’t see that comment made re Ga or Bama or any other staff. I wonder how much value that adds in the eyes of the recruit. On first face, it matters to them a lot.

But is he a TAKE?

I especially like this part

It's cool that he was willing to do that for the coaching staff. Nothing wrong with it but a lot of guys want to do it on their day, around their own people. So forgoing that to help the overall recruiting effort is very cool.
He would be helping himself and his team too. Shows foresight.

The best part is that this kid already has faster track times than Jaylen Wright, Dylan Sampson, and Cam Seldon. He's also already 190lbs as a high school junior, so he's not some undersized speedster. With what these coaches are bringing in, the Nico era is going to be fun for sure.

His HS team runs a I-formation with a FB. It looks like he is running against 9-man boxes and still getting yards. Might do really well in our offense against 5 or 6 man boxes.

Salem is a 5A VA school, but the level of competition looks a bit suspect. I would assume that the Roanoke/ Salem area is not nearly as talented as the Tidewater, Richmond, or suburban DC areas of VA. Still, good looking prospect.
