Video up on VQ...Mitchell said it was his first visit to UT and didn't really know what to expect but loved it, loved the coaches and everything about it. Raved at "how good the people are and all the staff". He seemed to be very pleased with his visit and really impressed with everything. Said he'll be back for spring ball and definitely for a game. Sounded like a really smart kid, hope he's a Vol.

Totally agree! Taught him and his sisters. He would be a great asset to this program.

Although he claims no favorites, he said Clemson, Duke, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are recruiting him hardest, and he gave a quick thought on each.

Tennessee: "I've only visited once, but I was really impressed with the coaching staff and facilities."

Virginia Tech and Tennessee still are believed to be the two teams to beat for three-star tight end James Mitchell of Big Stone Gap, Va., following his latest visit with the Vols less than a month ago. Mitchell admitted he’s likely to attend games at Tennessee, Duke and Virginia Tech this season. Clemson once was among the favorites to land him, but the Tigers are out of the race after landing three-star tight end Braden Galloway last month. Mitchell grew up liking Virginia Tech, along with his father, but geography is working in favor of both the Hokies and the Vols. He said he lives almost equally close to Virginia Tech and Tennessee, with the drive to Tennessee from his house being about 15 minutes shorter than the trip to Blacksburg, Va.

Per Austin Price

One school that has been on Mitchell for a while is Tennessee. The Vols join Virginia Tech, Clemson and a few others that continue to stand out to the versatile tight end. He was in Knoxville back in March and enjoys his time around the orange and white clad Volunteer program.

"I'm definitely very interested in them," Mitchell said. "I know they just got a tight end commit, but I know they are taking two so that door is still open for me. I know I'd like to get back down there this summer if I can. If not, I'll be at a game this fall."

Recruiting Mitchell is veteran recruiting savant, Walt Wells. Having been instrumental in landing half of Tennessee's current commitments, Wells impresses Mitchell with his demeanor and caring approach.

"He reaches out to me every day," Mitchell said. "It goes back to making me feel wanted and making me a priority. He lets me know that I'm a guy they really want. It shows what kind of job he is doing with the players he has committed to Tennessee. I still have to go through my process and weigh all my options, but I like how coach Wells interacts with me and his personality."

When asked who has the inside track Price replied 'VT or Tennessee'.

From a recruiting standpoint, Wells looks to be the best hire of Butch's tenure so far. He is slaying it on the trail.

Bump. Any new news on this kid? I know we want another TE in this class and Mitchell is the one I want. Is he coming to OCD?

This. Surprised he's not scheduled to make it. Our TE recruiting the last few years has been weak. He's probably my favorite TE we've been in on over the last 3 years.

I'd love to see TE become more of a factor at UT. What do you think about the Juco TE from AZ?

I think he's a big-time player and would likely start from day 1 as Wolf's replacement. I haven't heard anything at all really about his recruitment though. Are we a factor with him?

Yea, I agree. He is my favorite TE on UTs board. I heard VT is the favorite, but UT is a close 2nd. Last I heard, he won't be at OCD. The only TE coming is Tremble

I don't know. Seems like I read some positive things early, then nothing at all.

We were talking about Dominick Anderson the JUCO TE out in AZ.

But Mitchell is my favorite overall TE prospect they've been factors with over the last 3 classes.

Hopefully they wait and see what Mitchell does before taking a commitment from tremble (if he tries to commit).

I wonder if they take Tremble over Mitchell if he wants to commit this weekend

Good question. Idk, what UT thinks, but Tremble is very athletic and a good blocker when he is on the move. I haven't seen him lined up with a big DE and blocking that DE, but when he is in motion and lead blocks for RBs, I did see him destroy some people. Of course, that's high school. Fast with really good hands. He went up in traffic a few times and made some big time catches on his highlight video. I think if he wants to commit, UT will take his commitment. Idk, for sure, but I would. Although, I prefer Mitchell.
