Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics thread

Just the idea that getting bulk shots on the net because eventually some get through is a crazy concept to me.

How is that different from an option football team running 30 dive plays a game because they know that a handful of them are likely to go for a big gain?

Only a few nights left, how many heartwarming stories of pain and triumph can there still be? Last night it was a blind dog. Tonight it's either a skiier's former hamster with that got stuck in the wheel or an agonizing bout of the runs that threatened a bobsledder's Olympic trials.

The dive isn't about getting through in the least. The back makes the decision when he sees daylight and the purpose is to freeze the linebackers and safety so the option applies to only one guy down the line.

Or, if we're lucky, we'll get to see Mary Carillo hanging out with lumberjacks......

Fine. If you're going to argue that the dive is never intended to do anything other than facilitate misdirection, then I fail to see how running garbage plays over and over so that you can eventually spring something somewhere else is significantly different from the basic North American hockey method of getting a guy in front of the goalie, throwing the puck down into the crease, and then hacking at it to get it in. You're still trying to overwhelm the opponent with the brute force of percentages either way.
