Vandy pregame discussion

I agree with you about the gym and also Stallings. Great coach. Hardest gym in the country to play in. See a hard fought game as always with the Vols winning.

That gym is worth 8 points a game easy.... should be ruled illegal IMO.

Stallings is a hell of a good coach. You always have to be wary when you go up against him. He scouts teams as well as anyone.

That gym is worth some points. Its hot, stuffy and all screwed up with the way the benches are positioned on each end of the court. Vandy doesn't have a lights out guy on the perimeter which is good for us. I expect a war none the less in nashville come tuesday. If the vols get the win, it won't come easy.

If Vandy plays like they did against Georgia then we should smoke them. They play great defense, but they aren't near as good as they were last year.

If this game is at Vandy (which I believe it is), then they have a good chance to win.

That circus that they call a basketball arena is a mighty home-court advantage. 1st row of bleachers way below floor level, benches underneath the goals, fire-breathing clowns, its just ridiculous.

Vols 92

Vandy 68

Hey if Illinois-Chicago could do it....!

The big similarities in their home losses in the last 2 seasons have been

a) be a team from illinois
b) strong protection of the ball on O
c) 2nd chance points

We're good at c), mediocre at b), and really really really bad at a)

I never feel good about playing at Memorial Gym. I hate that gym with a passion. It's second to Rupp Arena as one of the worst placest to play in the SEC, because the refs always give Vandy homecooking. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's still there.

I'll be pretty shocked if UT wins. Vandy always gets up for UT at home and usually pulls together a great performance, even in years UT is clearly better. Last year Vandy caught UT at the perfect time, right after the huge Memphis game. But this year UT isn't nearly as good.

Just becuase of things I've seen over the years and my gut feeling, I say Vandy wins by at least 10. Look for a lot of horrible calls against UT.

Nothing's a guarantee when playing at Memorial.

He's kinda right though, in one way: they are so much worse, and they haven't even been that good at home this year.

They've lost to Illinois and Illinois-chicago at home.

They've beaten, um, Drake at home.

The homecourt thing looked more daunting last year because they were actually a really great team.

I mean even in '06--when they were about as bad as this season-- they lost to Furman in vandy, so...

They seemed to hang better with Kentucky @ Rupp than we did @ home against them... but the game was a 20 point lead early in the 2nd half while we were in the game till the end - so kinda different situations. Kentucky lost focus and slipped like we did against USCjr. But Vandy didn't have Ogilvy against the Cats.

Umm we also lost at Vandy that same season too. So you actually just helped prove the point that nothing is guranteed at Memorial Gym.

If we can't beat vandy tonight then this team is looking at being a 500 club in the sec jmo.
why? we're young and play like it and Memorial is flat out a tough place to win for young guys. Expecting us to win on the road is stretch enough, but doing it in Memorial is a tough task.

I'd say this is one of our top 2 or 3 toughest road tests of the season.

Top 5 for sure.

Well of course nothing is guaranteed, that's obviously why the games are played. Saying "anything can happen" is unnecessary in sports; we've all seen that maxim proved, so let's just assume its implicit in every person's voiced opinion.

But to suggest that Vandy benefits more from their court instead of just simply because they have a quality team who plays in front of their fans, is to suggest poorly.

Again: illinois(decent team), illinois-chicago(exact opposite of decent team)

If we lose tonight--which we certainly may--it won't be simply due to memorial.

I mean honestly: who have they beaten there this year?
