Our offense is so PREDICTABLE right now!. Why cannot we (offensive coordinator and HC) call some non expected calls especially on 3rd down, or other situations where just the obvious is what is expected by opposing defenses? When we see 5,6,7, and even sometimes 8 men in the box on defense, why call a 20-40 yard pass, or a side pass that only gets you 4-7 yards most of the time? We NEVER, I mean NEVER call a screen pass that would obviously get multiple yards when you have that many men in the box!!! Our offensive play calling is VANILLA. I like VANILLA in ice cream but NOT in offensive schemes. I know we have the capability to do this, but Halzle is so predictable. Nico has got exposed in this crap play calling. We need to change offensive scheme bad or opposing defenses will eat our lunch, dinner and our VANILLA dessert. Time for changing the offense or the OC. This offense is not performing right now.

You are so correct! Not only is the offense not as good as 2022, I don't think it is as good as 2023.:(

Screen passes are probably our most common pass play

Also, why in the world would you complain about “4-7 most of the time”. That’s a solid play

I agree that this offense is predictable. Not sure wholesale coaching and scheme changes are the answer.

Need to expand the playbook, maybe player comprehension is the reason for the lack of creativity?

The quick outs to the sideline where it’s 2v2 is not a screen pass.

The play we kept throwing to squirrel were the other WR blocks for him? That’s a screen.

That’s not an out route.

Our five or six offensive plays are getting very familiar with the world of college football. Here we go. 1. Sampson off tackle left 2. Sampson off tackle right 3. Pass to extreme flat left side. 4. Pass to extreme right side. 5. long pass out of bounds................never any toss sweeps, pass plays over the middle, don't know what a screen pass is to a tight end ! In other words my grandaughter can tell you what our next offensive play will be. Our offensive play calling is so terrible I will not be surprised to see us lose several more games. Run run run up the middle. All we know is to run the ball. Yes, you can set up the run by throwing the ball also. No, i never played a down of football due to a torn up knee playing baseball . However , I have watched Tennessee football about 65 years. If we do not open up our offense and not be so predictable we are in for a long year.

Flat out reason is because our two tackles couldnt hold the line and so Nico was getting rushed and never had time to get it downfield. Then he started getting flustered.

TN Offense depends absolutely on being able to beat the opposing Defense with 6 on 6. If they bring 7 or 8 we punish them downfield. But when we cant contain the rush because our OLine looked like a bunch of whales wallowing about, bad things happen.

I think because the tackles are just coming back from injury and havent played, CJH cant dial up anything other than the most basic vanilla stuff because our OL isnt in sync yet.

Where are the slants and hooks in the middle of the field, or hell a swing pass or RB screen

We’ve ran multiple screen passes to the TE this year.

The play squirrel got hurt on was over the middle.

Running up the middle has been very successful. We averaged over 6ypc Saturday running up the middle

I like vanilla. You can add anything to it and it works. We just got to keep it at the right temperature so it doesn’t melt or turn into a brick.

Our backs averaged over 6 ypc Saturday. What’re you talking about
The final score doesn't reflect it. It is hard to run up the middle with 8 men in the box most of the day. Our opposition knows, that is our bread and butter is my point.

The final score being something other than what we wanted doesn’t mean the issue is with our running game.

Well , since you are such an authority of Tenn Football, please tell me why we lost the game. You know our coach depends on the running game. My point is , you can set up the run with the pass play too.

Up the middle has only worked against the cupcakes!
Sabin said on College Game day before the OK game to expect Tn to run the ball. Everybody knows we plan to run the ball up the middle. It would take some pressure off the run game if we ran some sweeps out right or left, or a variety of other options. When I'm watching other teams play on Saturday I'm always seeing some gadget play, flea flicker , stature of liberty, running back stop and toss to a receiver, etc and say to myself = when is the last time you saw a trick play from a Tenn offense ? Just something to make the defense back off a little . Even worse is continuing to run the same failed plays through out the entire game.

He is going to have to this Saturday or the season is over (I think he will). Frankly, we should put TE out there and have him roll out once defender blitzes and hit the Tight End. Even if tackled at catch, that is going to be a 3-4 yard gain. They would have to back off the blitz to cover the TE and that will give us time. Having some of our WR do slants in would help as well. They are there within quick view of Nico and probably open. They will get positive yard (maybe not first down but 2-3 plays of that gets us there).
Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. So our O-line sucks? We need to adjust and run plays anyways. We won't win doing the offense "as is".
