Very odd runup to this game.

It’s simple really when you put aside your love for the Vols. This team appears to be a “paper tiger”. Heupel can fortify his place in Vol lore if he can have this team play with violent intentions.
We still haven't played a full game as a team yet all year, tonight would be a good time to start. There are no freshman now they have the experience just put it together.

Most of the "experts" are speaking like it just a formality. That this game is in the bag for Georgia. We are huge underdogs. -10 points to a team that is ranked below us? Makes me wonder if the "fix" is in for this game. I personally feel pretty good about this one but I don't think I've ever heard as much talk about what comes next for Georgia after they win today. I hope we stomp a mud hole in them.
I don’t think Oregon will win the Nc bc they’re never done it, I think Penn state and Indiana are gonna get blown out in the first round, why? Bc I’ve seen The Mid 10 get killed against real competition every time, Georgia has 7 straight against us, and until we win that’s what the expert sees. If we want respect we’re gonna have to earn it tonight

Because Georgia has owned us lately, until we do something about it, that's how it will be.

+ we have not looked good on the road and the offense is pedestrian.

We may win but it will shock a lot of people given we've struggled to score against bad defenses.

Taking off the orange paint, I give Georgia the clear edge going in.

I agree with you. Perfect description of this unusual version of a Vol team. It almost seems to be a team still searching for its identity. Close to getting on track for explosive offense but then strange fumbles, missed blocks, and 3 runs up the middle of a stacked box. And an over-performing defense that suddenly gets gashed up the middle by Miss St last week.
And strangely, Georgia appears to be searching for its "true self" as well. Given the high stakes and given the usual hyped up performance of a Georgia team when you get its attention, I could see a big number win for the dogs. But I honestly don't have a feel for this one. First quarter is just huge for whichever team can get going offensively......if one of them can. It will be worth watching for sure.

Could not disagree with the two of you more.

First, we're not a paper tiger, in any form or fashion. A paper tiger is, "something or someone that claims or appears to be powerful or threatening but is actually ineffectual and unable to withstand challenge." So you both think we're unable to withstand challenge? We're 8-1, dudes. Including wins over five SEC teams. Say what you want about Kentucky or Mississippi State, every SEC contest is a challenge. The Bama game doesn't count as a challenge to you? Because that's the only way we even come close to the definition of "paper tiger." We're friggin' 8-1. Sheesh.

And second, we're not "searching for our identity." The identity of this team is well established by now: crushingly stingy on defense, and a bit Jeckyl & Hyde on offense (September was huge points, like 50/game, October was low points, like 20/game, and November is too early to tell). That's who we are. Great D, schizophrenic O with a young QB.

It makes one think you each just reached out, grabbed a random cliche, and tried to glue it to our team. Glue's not sticking.

Go Vols!

Thanks professor. Whatever term you attach to it, this team is more pretender than contender. That can change tonight if they want it to.

Agree. I think we’re gonna lose big.

Think it is more about UGA than it is Tennessee. This team is just different though. They have had no respect all season, even when we beat the teams that were supposed to be good when we beat them. It is what it is. It's the Vols against the world tonight.

Kirby will have the pre-game/halftime sound bite in the locker room “I want you to eat” moment. As long as we don’t turn it over and make FGs we win. Defense isn’t going to let Beck have his best day.

Man for man and position by position, where is Georgia better than UT? Possibly at qb if Beck plays his best but short of that, I just don't see it.

There’s no conspiracy. We’re playing a good Georgia team at home at night. And they’ve been the team that we can’t really get anything going against under CJH. I think we have a chance to make it a game though.

There’s no conspiracy happening. But I completely agree that nobody is talking about Tennessee having a chance. They are all assuming Georgia will win.

It’s a good day to make those GA Puppies cry!

Vegas could care less where teams are ranked.

Heupel has faced Smart 3 times and Smart knows how to defense this system. I look for this to be much like the Arkansas game where our offense is throttled. Our only hope is defensive turnovers and scores.
On one hand, I agree...but, like all our SEC games, we left points on the field...if Nico is airmailing receivers we're in trouble. But, it seems he's shown progress here of late, putting more air under the ball.

Our 8-1 record combined with our recent successful past would indicate that tonight is a chance for us to go down there and prove that we are a tiger.
i must say that we certainly haven't faked our way to an one of our wins. Paper tiger is wildly disrespectful to the team @ the top this conference. We may not be the best team in the nation but we are exactly what our record says we are.
