Veterans' Day controversy in Boise

So then what would be inappropriate about sending the mass email and then going ahead with the salute?

That is not our call, it is the call of the Boise State Admin.

I deal with exactly this kind of stuff on a daily basis.

I would think there is some precedent for 21 gun salutes. I mean I bet they have occurred 1000s of times and I am unaware of where anyone freaked out?

It doesn't matter how many time it was before.....

We are a now society.........

guess we're going to need noiseless fireworks in Boise next year. Someone inside might assume it's gun play outside.

BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES VETERAN'S DAY ACTIVITIES - News

Boise State University will conduct a 21-gun salute to honor our nation's fallen soldiers in Bronco Stadium as part of the Veteran's Day recognition on Monday.
According to Director of Communications Frank Zang, the university had planned to cancel the salute because it was deemed inappropriate to be firing guns on campus. However, it was decided Thursday that the salute will occur in Bronco Stadium at 12:30 p.m.
"We're able to have this tribute without gunfire going off in the middle of campus in the middle of the day," Zang said.
At 12:30 p.m. a flag-raising ceremony by Boise State ROTC cadets with a bugler will be held in the Quad as the 21-gun salute occurs in Bronco Stadium.
"We are pleased to have found a way to do this tribute as part of our recognition of the men and women who have so bravely served our country," vice president of student affairs Michael Laliberte said.
The ceremony will include the playing of our national anthem and the distribution of yellow ribbons by members of the Marine Corps. In addition, an armored Humvee and other military equipment from the Marines will be on display. Events are sponsored by the Department of Military Sciences. The public is invited to all the events.
At 5 p.m. in the Special Events Center Brig. Gen. Alan Gayhart, deputy commanding general of the Idaho Army National Guard, will deliver a Veteran's Day keynote speech titled "Service to Country." The event will include the posting of the colors by Boise State's color guard, a military quintet, a POW/MIA ceremony and a reception.
In addition, The Arbiter, the independent student newspaper, will be recording video messages to veterans on the Student Union patio from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Family members and friends of veterans are encouraged to stop by and send a message to their veteran. The public is also welcome to stop by and record messages of support to veterans. The messages will be available on The Arbiter's Web site at Arbiter Online.

Wow.... a compromise.....

I really don't think it is a big deal

That is what I thought, I am sure when the original plan came out that people voiced their concern and a compromise was reached.

That is America baby!

It wasn't a big deal, until they gave the flimsy excuses that appeared to be the result of typical campus hardcore lefties that have no room for the military or its vets.

Come on!

It has nothing to do with hating the military by the socialists on the left......it was a concern and it was dealt with through a compromise.

Adapt, inovate and overcome!

Agree with BPV. It wasn't a big deal until some morons decided it was and that it needed to be cancelled.
