It's not my distinction. It is simply how things are defined. People can call themselves whatever they want. It is not, however, the way the university defines it.

So you're arguing that somewhere there's a document in Andy Holt Tower that defines exactly what it means to be a Vol? Have you seen it?

How many classes do you have to take? What if you fail out? What if you transfer somewhere else? Do you lose Vol Qualification Status if you leave too many unpaid parking tickets? If you take most of your classes in Martin and then transfer to UTK, do you have to fill out a form to change your status from Skyhawk to Volunteer even though it's still the UT system?

I have two undergrad degrees (double major), a graduate degree, my wife is a UT grad, and both of our kids were born at UT Hospital.

Frankly I question your commitment, you seem more like VOL-Lite, or Diet-VOL - why don't you come back when your credentials are more in order ? :eek:lol:

You made a ridiculous assertion so I ridiculed it. UT doesn't "define" Vol as anything in particular. Unless they mean potential fundraising targets.

Can I change the discussion slightly? Do you guys think Coach Jones continues the VFL program? I think it's really one of the few things Dooley did at UT that should be continued. Also I think Antone is the perfect man for the job and hope he continues. He is definitely a VFL.

Im not an alum but there is 4 people in my family who are. I got a full scholarship to bethel for track but im a vfl. Its in my blood always has been always will be. Just needed to clarify that you dont have to be an alum to be a vfl. I cherish my vols like my children, Ill put it like this. I might go through a divorce, hell maybe 2, but i will always be a vol. From hell or highwater i am clad in orange!!!!! Gbo vfl

My father was a Vol fan ever since I can remember. Grew up poor and during a time when college didn't mean crap to anyone, so he never went (despite being a pretty damn good football player in his own right). This past May we buried him in a TN hat that I don't know if he ever washed once but I know that he wore every week on gameday, and often to my sporting events growing up. He could name every player from about the 80's up until this years team even.

I don't know about you, but I know that attending this university doesn't mean **** to being a Vol for life, not when there are people out there who didn't have the money or the people to help them attend who are dying as Vol fans.

I think I'll side with a VFL is a VFL for several possible reasons. and attending the university isn't one of them unless you do something with it.

So I live in Ohio, only vol fan in my family, have to put up with Osu stuff, aren't going to UT because it's a little far and I don't know anyone down there and it's expensive for out of state. Does that mean I'm not a VFL? Seriously, you don't need to go to the school to be a VFL or a fan of that university. I continue to be more into UT sports as I get older. I consider myself a VFL no matter what, and a die hard vol fan till the day I die. People will know that I BLEED ORANGE up here and ORANGE only. Go vols!!!

I am an Alum. I am a Booster and I have had season tickets for over 15 years and I don't have the right to tell anyone else at anytime whether some is a VFL or any of the other acronyms thrown around here

This is the kind of bull cra#p that just pisses people off

All because a guy with a job decided to keep it.

Seems to me they are a bunch of children, regardless of their ages.

With respect, it was a joke. I would not really use the acronym S (stupid) I (idiot) V (vol) F (fan) F (for) L (life).

I don't believe that you have to be alumni to be a VFL! I am happy to be in the company of anyone who loves my Vols. I was just adding to someone else's stupid post. Nevermind.
