Vic Wharton

I saw some speculation that it was related to the UT Title IX issues but nothing ever came of it.

I don't see how that could be true. He announced he was transferring in January of 2015. The Title IX suit wasn't filed until February of 2016. Both he and Dewayne Hendrix left at the same time. I saw it mentioned that neither liked Butch Jones. Also, Wharton wasn't recruited over but I definitely think he wanted to be a feature receiver and saw that he wasn't as good as Josh Malone and we also had a commitment from 5 star WR Preston Williams as well.

I'd go with the recruited over theory myself, but the Title IX legal matters come from incidents that occurred long before the filing date. As I said though, nothing came out of that rumor.

He left around the same time as a bunch of those 14 guys. Think it wasnt the right fit. Lots of those guys seemed to have problems with staff.

A friend is a principal at AE, and I remember going with him to one of their games at Catholic when Wharton played for them. One of the AE players took off on a punt return, I believe. Wharton ran him down from behind, and did it coming across the field. The speed with which Wharton closed on that kid (who was not slow in his own right) was unreal. Wish we could've hung unto him.

Wasn't Wharton starting over Malone. I remember Vic starting against Vanderbilt and Iowa when Croom got hurt and the coaches decided to go with Wharton and Pearson and Malone was coming off the bench. The coaches always said that he loved to compete, so I don't think he was recruited over. Maybe he wanted a more rigorous academic perspective with Cal being the #1 public university in the world.

It's true...investigate. The research is there. Can't argue with facts

he left because they are a better school? I didn't find any quotes to the such. and research shows he changed high schools several times as well.

He changed high schools cause his dad is a teacher/coach who was given a raise each time he was hired away. Now maybe that could have been cause Vic was a freshman all-american in football and basketball but he loved Catholic high school and never wanted to leave. But those CPA were not very upstanding individuals. So who were the starting wr against Candy and Iowa in 2014. I just researched the game and saw Malone on the sideline.

once again you are assuming I am making arguments I am not. I bear him no ill will. I am glad he is doing well. Malone made it to the NFL in three years without putting up many stats until his junior year, I don't think him not starting his freshman year hurt him.

I am just pointing out how trollish your post was saying he went to Cal because they are a better school, without anything to back that up as his reason to go. Even with his dad being hired around doesn't mean he goes somewhere else because they are a better school.

some people just do better in different school systems. I always went to private schools growing up. Had people fail out of our school go to a public system graduate as vv and go on to become a doctor at Emory. the opposite is just as true.

as far as I can tell he was in good academic order here at UT so it wasn't a case of the school was failing him, as far as not serving his needs. I would want to know if he changed majors or if anything else in his life changed to cause a shift in schools?

from our side it looked like he left because he wasn't getting the playing time he wanted here.
