A genie appears before you and tells you he is endowed with the power to allow the Vols to win a few big games this year. He then tells you he will grant you a wish, but you'll have to select between two options.
Your choices:
(1) The Vols beat Alabama, but lose to Missouri and Auburn, - OR -
(2) The Vols beat Missouri and Auburn, but lose in a blow-out to Alabama
Which would you choose?
In a season with thin margins to get bowl eligible, it makes no sense to trade two wins for one. None.
Here is where I will get blasted. I almost don't want an upset over Bama. That raises the hype and expectation to an unbearable level, especially going into next year. I want to see a close nail biter, improvement in all phases, no injuries, and to win 3 to 4 of the remaining games. The season ends, we go bowling, snag a monster recruiting class and continue to develop next year.
Imagine if we beat Bama then loose two other games (more likely than beating Bama and winning out). The talk would be about how Jones peaked, or lost his team. There would be room for too much negativity heading into the offseason.
lets just win the games we should (Mizzou, Vandy, Ky), keep the other games exciting, maybe snag an upset against Auburn, and go out on a high note ready to make huge jumps next year and maintaining the off season buzz.
This season is about the long game, the future. This season is not about peaking with too many games left and fizzling out or missing a bowl again.
