I reached the word 'or' in the title and made my choice. Didn't even need the second option

I would choose to win more games any day as much as I hate Bama I believe more wins would go just as far as beating Bama. If we beat Bama everyone will say we beat a Bama team who was off their game if we beat Auburn and Mizzou we are consider to be on our way back.

A genie appears before you and tells you he is endowed with the power to allow the Vols to win a few big games this year. He then tells you he will grant you a wish, but you'll have to select between two options.

Your choices:

(1) The Vols beat Alabama, but lose to Missouri and Auburn, - OR -
(2) The Vols beat Missouri and Auburn, but lose in a blow-out to Alabama

Which would you choose?

In a season with thin margins to get bowl eligible, it makes no sense to trade two wins for one. None.

Here is where I will get blasted. I almost don't want an upset over Bama. That raises the hype and expectation to an unbearable level, especially going into next year. I want to see a close nail biter, improvement in all phases, no injuries, and to win 3 to 4 of the remaining games. The season ends, we go bowling, snag a monster recruiting class and continue to develop next year.

Imagine if we beat Bama then loose two other games (more likely than beating Bama and winning out). The talk would be about how Jones peaked, or lost his team. There would be room for too much negativity heading into the offseason.

lets just win the games we should (Mizzou, Vandy, Ky), keep the other games exciting, maybe snag an upset against Auburn, and go out on a high note ready to make huge jumps next year and maintaining the off season buzz.

This season is about the long game, the future. This season is not about peaking with too many games left and fizzling out or missing a bowl again.

They won't say anything negative about beating the team ranked #1 at your time of playing them unless Alabama proceeds to lose to Auburn, Lsu, and Mississippi St afterwards.

Frankly, it will take a performance as inspired as the one we turned in against Miami in the '86 Sugar Bowl to beat this Alabama team. Should we manage to do that, however, the amount of recruiting mileage that Butch could milk from that victory would be incalculable. He could point to the following: (1) "We beat Nick Saban- and Steve Spurrier-coached teams in our first year on the job. Imagine what we can accomplish once we have restocked this roster with talent." (2) "We beat a No. 1-ranked team for only the third time in school history and this time we did it on the road, something which is a first in Tennessee football history. Imagine what we can accomplish once we have restocked this roster with talent."

Beating Mizzou and Auburn would make us go bowling. Yes beating Alabama would be great but I would much rather have more wins over ranked opponents and go to a bowl then just beating Bama.

As much as one victory over Bama would be awesome ... the prudent choice is the two wins, leading a better bowl, more happy fans and even more recruits with the better exposure.

prudent yes,but is the Bama win going to be a mud hole stomping ? :)

i would have to go with beat Bama

I'll take beating Bama. Because if we beat Bama there is no way we're losing to both Auburn and Missouri...

can still go to bowl with a Bama win and those 2 losses. Beat Bama, Vandy, UK. 7 wins. done. Saban would also leave Bama cause he knows what Butch has for him in the future and he wants none of it. Drinking Kool Aid you say? I have an IV drip of big orange kool aid!
