Victory Over Bama Or Auburn + Mizzou?

Beat all three. Beat Bama, MO and Auburn. Finish the season 6-1 at home. Fans make the difference.

Not only will we have to beat Bama, but also the Refs. This sounds bad but Alabama is the only team that can play for the NC this year out of the SEC. It will not be Mo. A&M, or LSU or Auburn. AL is it, everybody knows it and I am sure the refs do. So don't expect the calls to go our way.

I will take Option 2 but would be happy with the 3rd Option Beat AL and Auburn. or the 4th beat all three. If we beat Alabama we will beat MO. and if we beat them both we will beat Auburn.

In a season with thin margins to get bowl eligible, it makes no sense to trade two wins for one. None.

Here is where I will get blasted. I almost don't want an upset over Bama. That raises the hype and expectation to an unbearable level, especially going into next year. I want to see a close nail biter, improvement in all phases, no injuries, and to win 3 to 4 of the remaining games. The season ends, we go bowling, snag a monster recruiting class and continue to develop next year.

Imagine if we beat Bama then loose two other games (more likely than beating Bama and winning out). The talk would be about how Jones peaked, or lost his team. There would be room for too much negativity heading into the offseason.

lets just win the games we should (Mizzou, Vandy, Ky), keep the other games exciting, maybe snag an upset against Auburn, and go out on a high note ready to make huge jumps next year and maintaining the off season buzz.

This season is about the long game, the future. This season is not about peaking with too many games left and fizzling out or missing a bowl again.

I'm glad there are a few people taking the other side of the argument. Thought it would be a somewhat closer contest than this when I created the thread.

That said, I don't think beating Bama would create a perception problem. The expectations are pretty well set that no one expects us to win much in Year #1 and Year #2.

It's not that uncommon for a great coach to win a game or two he's not supposed to in Year #1, but then see the team struggle with lesser teams. Harbaugh beat USC in his first year, but ended up going 4-8 for the year. It didn't hurt him at all. So I don't think it would be bad perception wise or that people will say "the Vols peaked."

Rather, I think it will (rightly) be perceived that beating a top team like Bama shows the potential of UT under Butch Jones. Even if we lose to Auburn and Mizzou, recruits are still going to see that Bama victory as a sign of what can be at UT.

I do want us to go to a bowl game, first and foremost, though. That's even more important than beating Bama IMO.

I would take option C which is win one of Mizzou or Auburn, win Vandy and Kentucky and win our bowl game nicely so when we get down to the final days of recruiting they remember we are on a win streak.

Clifton Garret showed you that most of the time you are only as good as your last experience, when he went and had a great time at Ole Miss and still had 2 visits with LSU. I would love a visit with a win for an Alex Bookser, David Thomas, a surprise visit from a Kentavious Street or Lorenzo Carter. Could you imagine if we got a Feb 1st weekened visit from a Jalen Tabor or Andrew Brown? Butch has momentum and I wouldn't mind the loss to Bama but taking care of the business at hand.

Beat bama!!
Lose the next two.
Beat Vandy and KY.
7-5 Season.
I'm happy, but expect better next year.

Yes I would take that but I don't know if bama will agree to it.:unsure:Got another ideal don't give a damn how and who just win 7.:) Then BOWL AND WIN.:dance2:

Here is the toughest part of this schedule to handle is that Alabama and Missouri are both physical teams. We are capable of matching up with them but everybody has to over achieve plus our depth is limited.

Give me the 2 wins vs top 20 teams. We'll beat Bama next year. Know I'm in the minority but I love the idea of a 7-8 win season more than I hate Bama.

Logic would say Bama winning the national championship helps the whole conference and two conference wins beat one win. However, call me crazy, but BEAT BAMMA every time!

A genie appears before you and tells you he is endowed with the power to allow the Vols to win a few big games this year. He then tells you he will grant you a wish, but you'll have to select between two options.

Your choices:

(1) The Vols beat Alabama, but lose to Missouri and Auburn, - OR -
(2) The Vols beat Missouri and Auburn, but lose in a blow-out to Alabama

Which would you choose?

put down that bong:lolabove:

Victory over Bama!!

Mainly because I know 0 Mizzou fans that I'd have to hear it from & very few Auburn fans...but those darn frequent-flier Bammer fans are everywhere

This isn't even close, Beat Alabama. We would have 5 total wins, with Vandy and Kentucky left to go. I don't give 2 ****s about "SEC Pride / National Championship" thing. If Bama is our conferences only hope then **** it. It doesn't do UT a damn thing for Bama, Auburn or LSU to keep winning titles.

Realistically the second choice is more probable but still unlikely. I imagine both Auburn and Missou have a lot of confidence going for them right now!

What if the Genie is a hot female, and one of your wishes is to play the piano with her, and she says, "oh that's against the rules." So you say, "how bout a little head." Now you're walking into a bar with an orange on top of your shoulders.

They can lose the rest of the games by blowout if they beat Bama and shut these bandwagon fans up.
