Everyone who understands football knows what our areas of need were in this class. Many needs were not addressed yesterday. Has nothing to do with what Rivals or any other service says. I'll be in crossed fingers and toes mode by Sept. but for now I'm not sure that we're any better off than we were under Dooley.
I don't think you can make a fair comparison with a team outside this conference.. It's insane anymore.. Put Beamer in the SEC and he'd get fired with the recruiting classes he signed at Tech..Tennessee is going too have to get out of the excuse business..Only time will tell how good this class is. It will also be a good test for the coaching staff. Frank Beamer had six straight 10 win seasons with recruiting classes similar to this class and beat Tn. 37-14 in the bowl game. Wins is what the Vols need to get back to the top in recruiting and let's hope this staff and team can get it done.

Did you guys know that Butch had only one month to recruit? Because he did. Only one month guys. Guys? It was only a month.
Right, that's nice. Fact is the class is 11th in the SEC and mediocre any way you spin it. He'll do better next year, just win some games butch.
"But he only had one month!"
I agree that Butch has things under control but for some reason otger can't see that. Dooley didn't even bother to contact some of the highly vauled recruits that Butch was in on in less then 2 months time. He did a good job. I think our next class will be top ten easily.
What needs did we fill?

Dobbs, Ferguson and the wide receivers.
Beyond that, not much in terms of offense.
Sanders is about the only O lineman that doesn't look like a long term project and I will believe Lee makes it on campus when I see it. Too many other teams backed off of him due to academics to feel comfortable.
Defensively, Jones completely struck out on adding any difference makers.
Holding onto Carr and Reeves-Maybin was nice but those two guys alone doesn't fill some gaping deficiencies on defense.
This class is more likely to be a failure than success and probably puts us a couple of years further in the hole given what the rest of the SEC did yesterday.
Jones has only been around a couple of months but I think he got a rude awakening on life in the SEC yesterday.
31 DAYS folks, that's all the actual recruiting time bUTch and his coaches had to try and build a solid relationship with these kids and their families.
31 DAYS when many coaches are talking to these kids for 2 YEARS and sometimes 3 YEARS when a kid is obviously a superstar in his Soph year in High School.
Recruiting is all about building very solid relationships with the kids, their coaches and their families over a long period of time.
4 coaches in 6 years shows ZERO stability in our footVol program and kids and their parents want to know that the coaches they entrust their kids to will be there when their kids graduate so they won't have so much turmoil in their college and football lives.
We probably just got the best QB class in the country so our QB position is solid for several years to come.
We filled serious NEEDS with some fine young men that can become great football players over the next 2 or 3 years as they mature, learn and get real game experience.
We got 3 players that Freak listed as surprise signees and 2 of those are D linemen that we badly needed.
This is a solid class especially when our coaches only had 31 days to work on it.
I'll bet that 2 years from today we're cheering our coaches at the haul of great recruits they bring in after they've has 2 years to build relationships and trust with the kids and their families.
This is a step by step LONG term process to rebuild our program back to the top in the SEC and this was just step 1 with many, many more steps to be taken.
VFL...GBO!!!

Give Butch Jones and his staff credit for the job they did on short notice and wait to see results before you pass judgement. With enough success on the field and a full year to recruit, this staff will be able to improve Tennessee football for the better.
