Views on Recruiting Class

Overall not bad though I wish we landed another DL and LB to the mix. We did get three DE's but no DT.

Offense looks good especially at WR. The QB's could be sleepers but we'll have to wait & see on the new offensive scheme.

People who are critical need to look at it thru recruits eyes. Tennesse had their asses kicked last year, even by Vandy. No bowl, new coach, new system...a lot of uncertainity. I actually thought at best a #35 ranked class. What CBJ and Staff has done is actually pretty impressive in the time they've had.

Everyone who understands football knows what our areas of need were in this class. Many needs were not addressed yesterday. Has nothing to do with what Rivals or any other service says. I'll be in crossed fingers and toes mode by Sept. but for now I'm not sure that we're any better off than we were under Dooley.

Only time will tell how good this class is. It will also be a good test for the coaching staff. Frank Beamer had six straight 10 win seasons with recruiting classes similar to this class and beat Tn. 37-14 in the bowl game. Wins is what the Vols need to get back to the top in recruiting and let's hope this staff and team can get it done.

If you ONLY look at recruiting I have to agree.

As far as this year goes...we didnt need much help from this freshman class. Would like to get to the point where most of a class gets RS'd. It's the 2014 class thats gonna be crucial. We're going to have to recruit imediate players for our front 7 and rb. Will probably have to hit a few Juco's.

I don't think you can make a fair comparison with a team outside this conference.. It's insane anymore.. Put Beamer in the SEC and he'd get fired with the recruiting classes he signed at Tech..Tennessee is going too have to get out of the excuse business..

Did you guys know that Butch had only one month to recruit? Because he did. Only one month guys. Guys? It was only a month.

Right, that's nice. Fact is the class is 11th in the SEC and mediocre any way you spin it. He'll do better next year, just win some games butch.

"But he only had one month!"

I can tell you right now. It sucked, and didn't meet our needs. It was the class of an SEC bottom dweller. And that is where we are and where we are staying in the near future.

So, what you're saying is.... he only had one month?

I don't buy it.

This recruiting class has some very good players in it. It also filled some needs.

Not gonna lie...I'm a bit disapointed but not with who we got. Gonna love watching this class of Vols.

It's who we didnt get that has me alittle bummed.
What needs did we fill?

i too was disappointed we didnt get Bell, mainly because the media had me convinced we had him. CJ did get a few that I didnt expect us to get and was in on several big names. I am going to reserve judgement on recruiting ability of staff till next year. Next years crop looks amazing with possible legacies. How many can we take next year if we do not pick any more up this year?

I agree that Butch has things under control but for some reason otger can't see that. Dooley didn't even bother to contact some of the highly vauled recruits that Butch was in on in less then 2 months time. He did a good job. I think our next class will be top ten easily.

I was noticing that Ole Miss had a 7 - 5 record this season, after a 2 win season in 2011. Now their recruiting is off the hook.

It is very important for us to have a winning season and end the season on a bowl win. This will show progress ot the recruits.

Also, we can sell early playing time at the offensive line position, the defensive line position and the tail back position. Maybe all of these factors will help us get a good class next season.

He had more than a month. Hell, he brought several recruits that he was in on when he was at Cincinnati.
So, on some recruits, he was working on them for over a year.....

What needs did we fill?

Dobbs, Ferguson and the wide receivers.

Beyond that, not much in terms of offense.

Sanders is about the only O lineman that doesn't look like a long term project and I will believe Lee makes it on campus when I see it. Too many other teams backed off of him due to academics to feel comfortable.

Defensively, Jones completely struck out on adding any difference makers.

Holding onto Carr and Reeves-Maybin was nice but those two guys alone doesn't fill some gaping deficiencies on defense.

This class is more likely to be a failure than success and probably puts us a couple of years further in the hole given what the rest of the SEC did yesterday.

Jones has only been around a couple of months but I think he got a rude awakening on life in the SEC yesterday.

Isnt that a tad premature?

31 DAYS folks, that's all the actual recruiting time bUTch and his coaches had to try and build a solid relationship with these kids and their families.

31 DAYS when many coaches are talking to these kids for 2 YEARS and sometimes 3 YEARS when a kid is obviously a superstar in his Soph year in High School.

Recruiting is all about building very solid relationships with the kids, their coaches and their families over a long period of time.

4 coaches in 6 years shows ZERO stability in our footVol program and kids and their parents want to know that the coaches they entrust their kids to will be there when their kids graduate so they won't have so much turmoil in their college and football lives.

We probably just got the best QB class in the country so our QB position is solid for several years to come.

We filled serious NEEDS with some fine young men that can become great football players over the next 2 or 3 years as they mature, learn and get real game experience.

We got 3 players that Freak listed as surprise signees and 2 of those are D linemen that we badly needed.

This is a solid class especially when our coaches only had 31 days to work on it.

I'll bet that 2 years from today we're cheering our coaches at the haul of great recruits they bring in after they've has 2 years to build relationships and trust with the kids and their families.

This is a step by step LONG term process to rebuild our program back to the top in the SEC and this was just step 1 with many, many more steps to be taken.

VFL...GBO!!!

:good!:

Vols Fans Should View Butch Jones' Recruiting Class Positively | Bleacher Report

My latest Bleacher Report article about UT's 2013 Recruiting Class.

Thanks for posting. Would love to see this line as a "Must Read" Sticky for Negavols...

Give Butch Jones and his staff credit for the job they did on short notice and wait to see results before you pass judgement. With enough success on the field and a full year to recruit, this staff will be able to improve Tennessee football for the better.

This class is around 10th in the SEC and we did not recruit well at RB, Defensive line or LB. Jones will have a reality check come September.... unfortunately

You people...ugh...I don't like excuses either, but you have to understand they're facts right now. You can say the class is disappointing, but for 31 days? It's really not. Stop whining. In the end, it's a decision the coach's can't make. They can do as much as they can, but it's a 17, 18 year old decision. I'm annoyed we didn't get bell, especially since I live in annoying buckeye country, but he felt like osu was better for him. There's nothing you can do about it. Whatever, some of you morons will never be satisfied. We aren't what we used to be, and it sucks, but I guarantee this time next year, ya'll will be praising Butch, so please shut up and be patient. Oh and the other programs and coach's you're talking about, have been there more than 31 days. And I don't count gus malzan (or however you spell his name, I don't really care right now.) He left Auburn for a year and went back...he hardly left and is familiar with the territory in the south. USC? Yes they've been sucking but it's L.A...a lot of kids would wanna go to L.A. Tennessee hasn't won anything since 1998. These kids were about 4 at that time. And Butch will get us back.
