Of course it happened at OSU vs UM, but at a couple of more schools. Police used pepper spray at Um game.
Is this new or has it been going on, and just now making the news?
Violence suddenly seems more acceptable??

Teams just need to get some more traditions to enjoy after beating their rivals.
Cigars never started a fight AFAIK.

Sarkisian seems like a jerk, but he did prevent his own players from stomping the A&M logo at the 50 yard line. Billy Napier apologized for this players planting the flag at FSU. Coaches are seeing this is a bad look for their teams.

These teams had 60 minutes to keep that flag from being planted and didn't do it. Hate it for them but they had their chance.

If someone comes into Neyland and beats us, we should take the loss and let them celebrate the win. If you don't want it to happen, take care of business.

There was once a respect that one held for their opponent that is woefully lacking in this day and time. The hatred exhibited by this behavior is as inexplicable as racism. There is no sane reason for said hatred other than the evil that continues to corrupt our nation and it's populace. That seeps and creeps into all facets of our world. Sermon over, let's do better folks.

The Big 10 just announced a $100,000 fine to both OSU and UM and they consider the matter closed. What a frigging weak leadership. No repercussions on the players and they claim to be the upper crust! Upper crust of the south end of a north bound mule if you ask me. The inmates are running the asylum.

Not that it should matter, but at least four road teams beat their most hated rival.…Michigan, NC State, Arizona State and UF.

No flag (or in ASU’s case, a trident) planting happens if you defend your home field.
Add Texas, South Carolina and Louisville to that list.

Michigan was invited to play a football game and started vandalizing the place. Keep your damn flag out of their field, you classless goons.

Honestly, the 100,000 fans at that game should be ashamed for not jumping in to protect their field. Don’t let the punks leave under their own will and the next smart asses who come visit will think again before disrespecting your state.

Michigan had a tough season so I don't blame their program for celebrating that moment.

And you're surprised? You think they'd suspend all those players before the playoffs?

That's what I was thinking.
If Ohio St. showed as much fight during the game as they did after, they wouldn't have lost.

A bunch of fans who paid hundreds of dollars to watch a game, whom the university otherwise may have no control over, storm a field after a big win and tear down goalposts: $250,000 to the opposing school in the name of "player safety."

A university team, on scholarship from the university and directly subject to university disciplinary processes, and being paid thousands of dollars to play a game, starts a brawl at midfield with an opposing team, eliciting police intervention by non-lethal force: pay $100,000 to the conference.

Yep. Kinda sums up where we are.

Where does it say that a road team is entitled to plant a flag at mid-field, if they win?

This behavior is a recipe for a mass brawl, and it should be discouraged.

Where does it say there's end zone celebrations or any emotion in football?

These kids aren't robots and these rivalry games are, Ohio State and Michigan, Bama and Auburn, etc, extremely emotional and hyped all year.

Should they, after a big win and especially an upset on their rivals field, be expected to file off the field without celebration?

My, my, how people long for the "old college spirit instead of all this emphasis on money" until the boys show some school spirit and that it's more than just about money........ then you guys turn into old maid aunts "somebody will get hurt...."

That is (typically) not the same thing, as the blatantly provocative act of planting a flag on an opponent's field. That is a very poor equivalency to draw.

That doesn't mean that an act of taunting should be condoned, especially one so likely to lead to a fight.

Celebrating is fine, but that can be done without planting a flag.

Where fights can be easily avoided .... Fights should be easily avoided. This flag planting trend is provoking fights.

There are better and more respectful ways to celebrate after a big victory. If your okay with that type behavior then you are not part of the solution as they say.

Defend your house in the big rivalry games and keep your head if you lose.

We don't need more regulations keeping the old college spirit from surfacing. These kinds celebrations are frowned on in the pro leagues because it's all about the money.

Make up your mind. Do you want kids to be committed and willing to fight for their school or do you want it to be the half-ass, all about the money BS seen in the NBA and NFL?

This might be the last vestige of college emotion you'll ever see before the game goes pro. Enjoy it before you're watching sanitized for TV viewing ESPN moneyball.

"Defend your house?" LOL. Grow up. This is just a game.

Where fights can be easily prevented, they should be easily prevented. This recent trend of flag planting is unnecessarily provoking fights. These kind of celebrations are frowned upon in the NFL because they will often lead to fights.

Norvell was correct with his actions. Get that shat out of here.
Show a little damn class instead of acting like a bunch of punks.

As I said, keep your head if you lose. Yeah, it's just a game of repeated collisions for 60 minutes and a helluva lot of sweat and sacrifice to get there.

I'm sorry you hate emotion. Fights and mixing it up ONE WEEK in the season at the biggest rivalries and your pearls are nearly fully stretched to the limit.

You'd not last 2 minutes in S America as a futbol fan.

I don't want to hear crap about "college football is all business now and there's no school spirit."

I fully supported when Hooker (I think) insisted Nico drop for pushups after stepping on the T in the locker room. Respecting the logo is what WE DO, but expecting the intense rival team that just kicked our butt to respect it is laughable.

Don't lose and this won't be a problem. Lose and you deserve your logo stomped. It's symbolic. Think about stomping their logo next year or whenever.

All of the bitching about NIL and portals and commitment and business....... and something comes along that's about school spirit..... and here we are with the "that's too much emotion" crowd. Jeez.
