This topic definitely peaks my interest.
I have read a bit on Ardant du Picque's studies, however, for the most part it has been vicariously through Keegan and Grossman. I really have never understood the backlash against Marshall, except that it has largely come from members who volunteered for elite units (101st, 82nd, Rangers).
Those volunteers most likely did not experience the reduced firing rates, since, as volunteers for elite units and natural risk takers, they were more inclined to fight back.
These units also deride Marshall because they are "elite" and Marshall argues that no such "elite" units should exist in an effective argument (which I tend to disagree with.)
