After listening to his interview, I notice more parallels between our 2021 baseball team and the 2018-2019 men's hoops team:
- teams full of personality, talented, and resilient players
- teams with swagger
- teams that exceeded expectations
- One Fly We All Fly / Daddy Hat
- Players that can mentor younger players and provide leadership on the next team: Fulky - basketball; Evan, Luc, and Redmond - baseball
- teams with a strong emphasis and track record in player development / sending players to pros
- teams with a healthy culture
- national visibility serves as springboard to more elite recruits
- elite coaches with proven track record and backgrounds
- in recruiting it's much more about program / player "fit" than player ranking
I heard him say that Evan will be a "player-coach" this year. Looks like he will be starting a coaching career this season. Vitello's future coaching tree is sprouting roots.
Don’t tease us like that!!
Article from Wes Rucker:
Vols' Vitello: Once you win big, you must keep winning big
"Now, as Vitello joked, all he has to do is continue producing at an elite level on an annual basis to prevent the people who love him from hating him.
Vitello didn’t just rebuild the Tennessee programs. He built a passionate monster of a fan base. Now he wants to prevent that monster from consuming him.
“You know, the Tennessee fans have been great to us, but they're human,” Vitello said with a grin. “You do it once, ‘Well, let's see it again.' And that's understandable, and that's kind of where you want to be at with your standards. But in order to adhere to those, there's a lot of stress that's got to be spent to make sure you got pieces of the puzzle.”
