Yes, that's assuming Kahne wins and leads the most laps, and Jr doesn't lead a lap, then 18th will guarantee him a spot in the chase. If Jr leads then he's in with a 20th or better.Sweet.
Definitely do-able at a track he's won at 3 times. I guess the 18th is assuming Kahne wins and leads the most laps, which isn't guaranteed, of course.
It's crazy. Stewart is out with 2 wins, 10 top 5s and 14 top 10s. Martin is in with 0 wins, 5 top 5s and 11 top 10s. If Nascar is going to change the format for the chase they need to add a rule where a driver without a win is out. It's maddening that a guy who goes out and just rides around playing it safe, not even trying for a win, can make it by running 10-15 every week. That's not a slap at Martin, Rusty Wallace did the same thing last year. :BANGHEAD2:I actually felt bad for Stewart last night.
I'm not really worried about Talladega, I think this spring was a fluke because its rare DEI loses an engine, especially at a plate track....He'll be fine, the races I'm worried about is places like Homestead, but then again this year he has really improved on those downforce tracksWord. :rock2:
It's crazy, the track I'm the most worried about for him is Talladega. Who would have thought a couple years ago you'd be saying that. wow.
I disagree. I think winning is the only reason for competing in the first place. I'm not saying that the championship should always go to the guy with the most wins or anything, but Nascar should put more emphasis on winning and running up front, and less on riding around playing it safe. You've got guys who are out there trying to win every race, which to me is what you are supposed to do, then you have guys who just go out there and ride around in circles trying to stay out of trouble.I disagree about making the whole thing bout wins... it's been about scoring the most points. It's not like winning is penalized... you get 10 more points than anyone else if you win a race, so there is a bonus for it.

As badly as I hate Jeff Gordon, I admire the fact that when he was winning his championships he never did it by "points racing". He tried to win every week. And so did Dale for that matter.
