VN Top 50 Songs

I think The Clash are among the 15-20 most important bands in rock 'n roll history. I think the Ramones are no talent hacks. I believe my answer is clear. A better question would have involved The Clash and The Sex Pistols.

Agree with the Clash - definitely above these other two. I'd say the Sex Pistols and Ramones are on pretty even footing.

The Ramones played a pivotal role in punk then later New Wave development in the US. By the time the Sex Pistols hit the shore for their bizarre but entertaining tour of honky tonks, the Ramones had been influencing the New York punk scene for many years.

General Public was good. I preferred Londonbeat, however.

Now your talking. The lead singer for London Beat went on to do his own album. Sorry I am thinking of Bronsky Beat.

You have to love Howard Jones also. No one is to blame.

I was always partial to Raspberry Beret. I don't think I'd include any Prince songs in my top 50, however.
Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Purple Rain, and If I Was Your Girlfriend are easily Top 50 material.

I could certainly see Prince songs in a top 50. Don't listen to him much anymore but he is a musical mastermind.

He gave by far the best Super Bowl halftime show in recent memory. Although that isn't much of a compliment. I like Prince, but for me, if the music of my life is limited to 50 songs, I don't think any Prince tunes would make the cut. To each his own.
