Vol Fans in Georgia?

I'd avoid the perimeter at all costs. I moved where I did to avoid the traffic, 675 is usually wide open for me here in Stockbridge.

Dacula! Hah, I remember when that was just a residual dam from an old mill.

If I was in your shoes I would definitely live in Athens but don't dis the small towns. some of my best adventures have been in places like Cornelia, Jefferson, Gainesville and Helen. And Athens has a Varsity, so you have all the comforts of home.

Varsity is soooooo overrated.

I went down there twice for interviews. I did not go to Duluth or Lawrenceville. I did have time to kill and drove around Dacula, Auburn, and Winder. None of them got me very excited...

I enjoy living far enough away from the excitement of Atlanta. Any of those places are just a short drive to the city.

Covington is the perfect distance from Atlanta and has just enough stuff to do. If my in-laws didn't live there, I might even live up there. :)

We're happy here, although the in laws and my parents are within 20 miles of us. It has its pros and cons of being so close to the grandparents.

I spent two glorious years at Oxford. Of course back in the 70s, the whole Covington area had not been taken over by the Atlanta metroplex.

Atlanta traffic has always been harsh. It will never improve.

Covington is still far enough out that you can get around without much of a problem. One town over in Conyers, it's a nightmare.

Yes, the last time I was out that way, they had I20 and the surrounding area in Conyers all torn up.

The problem with the Atlanta area is that so many main roads started out as goat paths and things were built up along the trails. It's just impossible to avoid the congestion when a bunch of your day to day traffic is running down two or four lane roads with weird lane changes, turn only lanes, etc.

That being said, I love NE Georgia and think they have some beautiful country.

The perimeter?

I-285 basically circles inner Atlanta. It's known as "the perimeter". I'd avoid living in it or near it really. If you've ever been in rush hour Atalanta traffic, you'd better understand. It's miserable.

You can move 15 minutes outside and never know you lived so close to a huge sprawling city.

Oh ok. I don't think I'm going that direction anyway. I'm focusing on Athens.

I personally don't like to be yelled at by the person I'm giving my $ to. Chili dogs are crazy good though. What's a guy to do?

It is the curse of men to put up with a lot of yelling to get to something crazy good. Can I get a witness?

Recently went to Lennox Square. Being from Knoxville, I've never seen so many high end shops.

Thanks, just adding another hour to the trip home and possibly longer with Atlanta Friday afternoon traffic. :shakehead:

It's hard to convince people of this, but surprisingly, from Athens it's actually about the same heading north on 441 and then going to Waynesville NC and picking up I-40 to Knoxville as it is going to ATL and catching I-75.

This is easy. You don't want any part of north or east metro Atlanta commute if you don't have to. You definitely want to live in Athens. It's a great town.

So, to summarize, west of Winder is traffic and stress. East of Winder is less traffic and a college town filled with cool bars, restaurants and women. The choice is yours

Alright, Olmec, all I could hear is, "the choices are yours and yours alone, good luck"

Head up to Northpoint Mall in Alpharetta. It's as bad or worse.

We came in through Neiman Marcus and once we got out it was Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Prada, Gucci. I'm like, where's the Foot Locker?

You can take 441 from Athens to Knoxville. 441 is Chapman hwy. it's not the safest route but it's doable

I was actually looking at that. Pretty interesting. Is there ANYTHING along the way though? Like gas stations more than once every 40 miles or so?
