VolNation 2014 NFL Mock Draft

Looking to trade down. Any one interested? If no one responds before I get out of track practice, I'll select then.

That's fine
The San Francisco 49ers are proud to select
Kelvin Benjamin WR, FSU

Updated the draft board.

Yankee_Vol hasn't been around since the 13th, so in the interest of speeding this up:

With the 26th pick in the 2014 VolNation NFL Mock Draft, by proxy the Cleveland Browns select Jason Verrett, CB, Texas Christian.

utkjoe is on the clock

With the 27th pick in the 2014 VolNation NFL Mock Draft, The New Orleans Saints select Dee Ford, OLB, Auburn

Though he played DE in college, all the experts agree his best position in the NFL is going to be as a 3-4 pass rusher. With the run on wide receivers and cornerbacks already in this draft, the Saints opt not to reach at those positions and take the best pass rusher still available.

I bet you wanted Benjamin, that's why I traded up

Actually, no. Benjamin is a pretty terrible route runner, and Cooks is very NFL-ready. I would have picked Cooks even if Benjamin was there. His size is impressive, but Cooks really does remind me a lot of Steve Smith.
The person I really wanted to fall was Zach Martin.

In the real draft, I hope the Panthers are of similar mind. Benjamin, in time, could be an excellent NFL WR, and a particularly effective weapon in the red zone. However, he's pretty raw and I wouldn't select him at #28. Maybe he falls late into the second round and I wouldn't object him being selected there.

I don't like Cooks hands at all, and him being 5-8 doesn't help

I'm hardly the only person that ranks Cooks ahead of Benjamin.
I just pulled up WR rankings and CBS was the first site to come up on Google. CBS ranks Cooks as the #4 WR and Benjamin as the #10.

Walter Football ranks Cooks #4 and Benjamin #6.

SB Nation ranks Cooks #5 and Benjamin #7.

I can go on all day.

Oh, I know. I'm not debating that at all. But I do think that of the two, Benjamin is the more likely one to still be available at #28, and I hope the Panthers go in a different direction in that scenario. Cooks is getting comparisons to Tavon Austin as well.

Should note that the Broncos moved Orlando Franklin today which would appear to close some holes in the line. That puts Franklin at LG, and Clark at RT with Clady coming back to LT. They could still look at RT, imo. I would not be opposed to it.

n_huffhines hasn't posted in 5 days. So, by proxy:

With the 31st pick in the 2014 VolNation NFL Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, UCLA.

cyclopskiller, you're up for the Seahawks. I'll check when you posted last and go from there.
