This is how they go all too often. My sister still lives in our hometown 30 miles due east of Ft.Myers and had no intentions of leaving when it was destined for Tampa as a cat 3, as that’s 150 miles NW of her. In the night it obviously shifted further south and gained steam. Same thing happened to my cousin in Panama City/Mexico Beach area with Michael. She went to bed with it as a cat 1 bound for Destin/P’cola so she was riding it out, by the morning it was a cat 4/5 and heading directly towards Mexico Beach. She made it a few miles inland to a friends house off the water where she lives and returned at the end of the week to find her refrigerator standing with no house around it.
