VolNation Top 25

Most teams lost key players at some position or another. Florida appears to be plenty deep.

I'm not saying they'll get there at the end, though I have hope, certainly. I'm saying its hard to justify pushing them below #1 until they lose or until someone else clearly shows they deserve it.

Remember, most folks are ranking USC #1, a team that lost to a mediocre UCLA team and otherwise really wasn't all that impressive.

USC will be better than Florida.

They have overall more talent, and they return alot more.

And they weren't impressive? They beat Nebraska (BigXII Runner-up) 28-10, they beat Arkansas (SEC Runner-up) 50-14. They beat Notre Dame 44-24, and they also beat Michigan 32-18.

Thats pretty impressive considering they return just about everyone, and brought in a top recruiting class to go along with the best coach in college football.

Right, because Florida was impressive in 2005.

Yowza. Why the high rankings for VT, Oregon, and Penn State?

Also, who is Oklahoma's projected starter at QB next season?

Virginia Tech returns 16 starters from a 10 win team, has a 1st Team ACC RB back, amazing defense, favorable conference schedule.

Oregon was the best statistical team in the Pac 10, was on the bad side of variance in turnovers, returns 14 starters.

Penn State is a little less optimistic - mostly, 14 starters back, unless a couple of guys are convicted soon. It's a chance to take to put them there - I expect Austin Scott to play well at RB and Morelli to get the ball into the 3 stud WRs hands. Far more favorable schedule.

And Oklahoma will probably start Sam Bradford.

So, are you saying that you don't necessarily think there are only 10 teams better than PSU, but that at the end of the year they'll be ranked #11?

Yup. I do take into account schedules. I'm trying to predict the final standings. If you want some power rankings, I guess I could do that, too.

He's the slated starter for now - will Hornsby, Monroe, Wright take over?
I suspect he will get his shot at first. He has had some time to sit back and reflect and maybe (hopefully) learn a thing or two from reggie frekin nelson, but he's just such a head case its tough to put him out there and have some confidence. If he can't do it, i look for dorian monroe to take over maybe by Tennessee weekend. Hornsby will play as well as Major Wright. Wright is frekin awesome and could make a sudden impact.

Gotcha. I understand that approach, but I hate it when the AP or Coaches polls reflect that line of thinking.

Agreed. However, on the other hand, I hate the fact that these media voters watch about the same amount as football as us, and might even know a little less. Sportswriters are good writers, average football fans. John Adams - do you really think he knows so much more than you or me?

I'd be stunned if Auburn finishes in the top 10. No Kenny Irons will be bad news for the Tigers.

I realized I left Nebraska off my top 25. They should be in the 18-25 range. South Florida, Rutgers, Clemson, UCLA, Miami (crap, I expect a lot from them, too), and Oklahoma State could get in the last 5 spots, too.

Got a question for you guys. Really crazy though, but if Tenn. were to have a "down" year and Fulmer is gone and all that good stuff. What if Spurrier were to inquire about the Tenn. job, how would Vols fans react?

I'd love it, 80% would hate it.
