I wonder if this is actually attendance numbers or just ticket sales. I am going to lean towards sales because the past few games I have watched has had a considerable amount of empty seats.
It's ticket sales. They scan the tickets coming in now so I don't know why we don't release the actual number, in guessing because most other schools probably don't either. Not sure though. I'd e curious to know the actual attendance number, in sure bigger games are accurate, but like last night you have a lot that just don't show.

Student and guest tickets aren't scanned the same, so it does make it more difficult to guage actual attendance than at first sight. I know the Saturday games have easily had 17k in the seats. The mid-week games, especially on Wed nights have low attendance due to people having to work the next day and the church crowd know's their it's loyalties lie.
It can get rowdy when the game is close, but if we fall behind by 8-10 points it shuts down.. and if we ever get up by 8-10 points, it shuts down. Kind of sad when compared to the 4 places above us. Rupp speaks for itself, UNC's crowd is crazy, the Carrier Dome is insane..
I have long held that the issue at TBA is two-fold:
1) It's a huge facility that needs a lot of noise to be noticed.
2) The student sections suck, period. You have the mosh pit behind the goal and a single section in the lower bowl, otherwise they cram them in up top.
This opens the door for the student haters that live on this forum to come out of the woodwork... but the student sections are very lively, they are just not positioned for maximum effect.
1) You're right here, but the physical construction also plays into it. TBA is a vast facility with a lot of volume to fill. You have some facilities that seat around 15k but have lower ceilings and such, which amplifies volume.
2) It's a tough topic, the cold hard truth is UT is very tough to get into these days and most of those kids could care less about athletics, that explains a lot of it. The Anti-Student stance of Hamilton didn't help relations either, I assure you.
Random- I know it's all about the money and the AD has to make it, but they have turned Neyland and TBA both into nursing homes... season ticket holders who tell someone to sit down and be quiet have no reason to be there. My opinion, of course.
i agree i really wish something could be done, i just really dont know what that solution is. they cant give the students better and more seats because if they dont show up it really looks even worse on tv.
i dont know what the solution is, and i can assure you it wont be renovated again for a loong time after the money that they just put in.
heres my opinion: id like to see 1 sideline go to students and thats it, but thats all they get also, unless upper deck is available before games. IF students dont claim their tickets by the day before the game, then the remaining tickets go on sale to the general public.
This may have already been discussed but its my understanding that all the sideline seats are locked in to the original donors that financed TBA in the 80's. Those seats are owned by those ticket holders for life.

haha believe me if they wanted to they could move them. i know also not ALL lower level seats are kept every year. from my understanding there is a waiting list, and after the year when others dont renew you are given the chance by order to make the donation and become the holder of those seats.
also, im pretty sure you have to make a yearly donation to keep your seats. well jack the donation up about 100x and see how many of the fans keep their seats. my point is, if they want a sideline for the students they'll get a sideline for the students.
I doubt all seats are spoken for due to the original donations but I am nearly certain many of those seats were guaranteed for life with a specified donation to the construction of TBA. That has been the biggest handicap with moving students.

it says on ut site that funding for renovation was provided by campaign for tennessee basketball and revenue from the suites. no mention of season ticket holders having to make donations and in return being guaranteed tickets for life.
im sure there are a few that this is the scenario, but im guessing 10-20 at most that fit this scenario. im pretty sure those 10-20 would gladly take a suite, or would be willing to move to better or comparable seats to clear out one side.
as i said i dont suggest the move be made because i dont have enough faith in our students to fill out a whole sideline anyways. im just brainstorming as to how tba can be louder, and the student section become more of a part, and really give us that edge....any ideas?
