Vols 5th In Attendance

I don't have any ideas. I think they have the best plan in place they can do. I don't think we will see anything different. I will clarify with some close friends of mine that have had seats since TBA was constructed and are considerable donors to see what exactly is the deal. Unless I know 50% of them there is many more than 20 tickets under that original agreement.

are you referring to recent renovations or originial construction? i thought you were talking about recent renovatoins, i know nothing about the originial construction so you could absolutely be correct.

as you said i dont know there is an answer. IMO best thing is take up some crazy a$$ marketing skills and really push things. have someone since it isnt martins style, to get out there and get on tables in the cafeteria and buy the students pizza prior to the games. runs specials for fans for insanely cheap upper level tickets, maybe even free with canned goods. this would give opportunity for coaches to bring in their teams and things like that.

just a thought.

im just brainstorming as to how tba can be louder, and the student section become more of a part, and really give us that edge....any ideas?

If it makes you feel any better I have been to a game in the Dean Dome and it is worse than TBA. I think the lack noise is just a product of the big arena. I haven't been to Rupp but I have heard many say that it isn't a great venue when considering noise.

Yes I am talking about the original construction. I have heard that the University regrets that fund-raising tactic very much.

haha id say so. that makes sense, not nearly as many big time donors as interested as there is now.

as i said im fine with students where they are, when they start packing their section for every game, including christmas break games, then we'll see about getting them some better seating. but for 30 students to show up for SCjr is pathetic, it shouldnt matter the opponent. look at most other schools you see, there student section is packed.

I know students complain about FB tickets no longer being free. Are BB tickets free?

Students along the sidelines would be the best design. But that will never happen because of the season ticket holders and all the revenue that would be lost from selling those seats.

yes they are free.

figure that one out. if i could sit in lower level for ut games for free, id be there every game. wtf?!

The older I get the more I realize that the real task is to get those butts in the seats that aren't like you and I. We need that fan that really isn't a "fan" to come. CM isn't going to attract that person until he puts us in the top 20 IMO. I love watching this team but the casual fan would rather see a 80pt+ game.

Bingo.

Also, yes, TBA's design is the reason the noise doesn't fill very well. However, it can get crazy at times... TBA was built as a one-upmanship to UK, despite the fact UT knew going in they would probably not fill the arena on a continuous basis. So they had to sell their soul, so to speak, to get donors to open the pocketbooks.

And the fact that some games only about 2 rows of the sideline would be filled by students for some games. They have a bad habit for just not showing up sometimes.

Very good points. As you said there aren't enough true basketball fans in the area so you have to attract the casual fan as well.

Look at vandys student section last night, I'm gonna bet you 3/4 don't even know what a flagrant foul is, BUT they're there and making noise. That schools harder to get into than UT, so that shouldn't be the reason either.

Idk if 80 points would make a huge difference if we had the same record, as you said though winning is key. If this team wins the next 5 and comes home for vandy to finish the season that place sill be rockin.

Memorial is a dump in many ways but I do have a good appreciation for it. Simply put it has "character". The new big buildings don't have that. While the students have something to do with that "character" its more about the building itself IMO.

im not referring to character im just saying their students show up night in and night out and pack their area. they know nothing if anything about basketball, and probably spend halftime studying, but during the game they are loud and visible, our studen section is not.

thats all im saying. agreeing that as you had said earlier you have to attract the casual fan to the games, because there just arent enough true basketball fans willing to come on their own.

I guess my point is that the "character" of the building has something to do with a student wanting to come to games. Yes where they are seated matters but the mystic of the building plays a role in the attendance. JMO

i dont see that but ok. so a historical building will pack the students? there are many schools that would disagree with that theory, and many brand new gyms that would also disagree with that theory.

i dont think the gym itself has much to do with it at all, i think more than anything it comes down to winning. i guarantee you if we win these next 5 and go into vandy fighting for a bubble game, that thoses students will be packed in and that place rockin'

It helps that Vandy has had a better team than us the past few years. It also helps that Game Day was in attendance. But I think a big part of it is their location, which plays somewhat into the building. The students have no divider between them and the players, they are practically on the floor. You know teams are going to get frustrated there because of how stupid the gym is, so they are going to play into that.

I know if I was in the first few rows at a UT game on the side and guaranteed to be on TV the whole game, I would be going crazy also. But throw the rowdy group of students into the upper bowl and corners, plus a team that is unpredictable, and you get what we have. A boring atmosphere.

Side note, did anybody see Calipari saying he was wanting to sign a petition to make Vandy change their setup for benches? Was he being serious?

I have a good feeling TBA is going to be loud Wednesday after the monster victory yesterday.

Against Arkansas? I do not see it being that great of an environment. Not enough hype being built up on campus.
