Vols are really in a deep dark hole

I’ve been saying this , Barnes credits himself on the defensive side of the ball, but the problem is when it comes tourney time the defense doesn’t hold an opponent to 40 points and our offense can’t bail out the average defensive night.. look what huepel is doing with a fast pace offensive scheme. I know it’s different sports but I want a basketball coach who’s identity is offense. That way we can get some high level recruits in here. It’s hard to get the best of the best year n and year out with a coach who expects defensive perfection.

Few teams have been as successful as Virginia over the last several years, and their calling card is defense--though they had a good offensive team the year they won the big taco. Any coach can have an "offensive identity" (or the opposite), it's mostly about the talent you have. We don't have any special talent on offense this year; we have four/five guys who can have good offensive games (or not), and playing good defense is paramount. That's especially true on the road. We HAD a solid offensive performance last night--check the stats; it's just that Vandy probably played their best game of the year.

The level at which our level of play has diminished in a short period of time from our win against Texas is remarkable. Beating Missouri at home is close to a must win or we may be staring at a likely 5 game losing streak with Bama, at Kentucky and at A&M coming up. Not just playing poorly but playing dumb.
Barnes has to figure this out but he looked befuddled in the post game comments. His seniors need to step up on the floor. Just disappointing overall given how we should be playing at this point of the year.

Typical team, happens every year. by March we are fizzling

This is a legit Q. Can a team, even one as deep as ours, stay this highly focused on the defensive end for 35-38 games without a letdown?

They say NBA rookies hit a wall 30-40 games in. And nobody in the NBA is even in the same galaxy as far as defensive hustle & intensity like we have goes.

After this many games is it legitimately possible to "get better" as Rick always preaches week in and week out? Should we sandbag and cost ourselves a game or 3 through the 1st ⅔ of the season, and then then attempt to dial it in towards the tourneys? Thoughts.

Tell me you don’t watch basketball without saying you don’t watch basketball…

He is a “great” defender against the Vanderbilt’s and Missouri’s of the World but looks lost against athletic teams. Terrible May be a bit harsh but he isn’t a particularly athletic defender. His performances against Michigan in the tournament last year still gives me nightmares

Our guards have to play smart, there is no need to constantly pick up fouls 50-70 ft from the basket. ZZ and Vescovi have to be out there down the stretch and be able to hit clutch free throws. They have to quit getting into foul trouble. We have to start playing smarter. GBO
