"Vols are the SEC's most underrated team in the preseason"

The football pundits are wondering if my Sooners can get 7 wins.
They’re not a bad team, and it’s a legitimate question. How well their oline performs could easily be the difference between 9-3 and 5-7

Iowa underestimated us too....

Rather be starting the season disrespected as to having a target on you right out of the gate. Proving the experts wrong is always more fun.
Yep...lurking in the woods & waiting to pounce. BE the Underdog!

This college kids see video games as the gospel. Try to convince them video games don’t matter. There are teenagers making millions of dollars playing video games. That is the reality we live in.

I've heard that's all they do outside of Football. Helluva waste of an educational opportunity. I know some guys over 30 that won't hit a lick at a snake but "Play Games" 24/7. (and don't even help support their families)

My knee jerk reaction here was we are about 3 spots low...but, knowing that basically Nico and the offense is still a relative unknown and the Secondary is going to be beat up, then 7 isn't all that far off.
I would still have us ahead of LSU and maybe even Mizzou.

These guys are ranking UT based on a "Wait and see" about Nico. And the new Defensive backfield. So the Vols just have to go out and show out.

Preseason polls are stupid. Nobody knows what will happen. Every team is undefeated until they aren’t.
Especially before fall practice...and even then its a produce of the media generating business. Fun to look at and consider but people who usually make these things are basically fiction writers.

We went 8-4 with Joe at qb last year and injuries at receiver. Barring nico getting hurt I see the floor as 9-3 with this team. Schedule sets up nicely this year compared to last year as well. Although I do wish we played mizzou this year after drinkwitz little comment to heupel after the game. After us putting 56 on their head two years in a row. He gets a win and knows he don't have to play us the next year and acts like he's some hot shot.

I agree...He wins a game and tells the interviewer they kicked our ass, while we did that to them 2 years in a row and said nothing.....

They did beat us, but shut the he!! up.

@vol_in_ga, do you really think a 5-7 record for Oklahoma is easily within reason for 2024?

That would mean that a team Phil Steele has listed as 7 in his strength/power poll loses 7 of 8 conference games -- do you think that's a realistic possibility?

This is not a league where your offensive and defensive lines can be suspect and you still be successful. You’re not in the BIG12 anymore.

OU went 10-3 in the Big 12 with a heisman candidate at qb. Is OU expecting to be better than last year? I can’t imagine so after all the losses they had at various positions.

I see 5 expected wins in temple, Houston, tulane, South Carolina, and Maine (and OU would be wise not to underestimate Tulane or a desperate South Carolina). The rest could easily be losses. I don’t see this schedule without at least 3 losses from Texas, Bama, lsu, ole miss, Tennessee, and mizzou. Going .500 there should be considered a successful first season in the SEC. So yes, I could easily see OU at 9-3 with an 5-0 start and just as easily see 5-7 losing all SEC games other than South Carolina. Games against Tennessee at home and at Auburn will be good barometers for setting the rest of the seasons expectations going into the bye week.

I heard Houston is expected to make a surprising amount of noise for its first year in the Power 4. Don't know if that's true, just heard it on one of the Josh Pate analysis videos.

So if Temple has the potential to surprise, and Houston has the potential to surprise, and we already know South Carolina and Mizzou are often capable of surprising, that makes 10 games out of 12 that the Oklahoma Sooners can not sleep walk through. Wow.

Now, we all realistically expect the Sooners to beat Houston, and Temple, and South Carolina, and probably Mizzou. So they're probably pretty safe assuming at least 6-6. And of the other 6, they'll probably win some and lose some. So 8-4 is not an unreasonable expectation.

But I could absolutely see a fella's rationale if he said the Sooners could go 5-7. Not likely, but not cuckoo crazy. [p.s. they could also go 10-2...equally unlikely, but equally plausible].

Go Vols!

Okay. We'll see.

BTW, the On3 expert that you cite said that Oklahoma might struggle to a 7-5 season this year. There was no mention of 5-7.

Every Sooner fan I know is anxious for this season to start. Serious predictions of a possible 5-7 record make it even more interesting. We'll see soon enough whether Oklahoma falls to below .500 in the SEC.

I don't think OU goes 5-7 but the lack of OL depth is cause for concern. The defense could be really good and that will win some games. 7-5 should be the floor I think.

The link was just for the focus on the offensive line (and it says apparently defensive - which would surprise me with a defensive background head coach), which I see as OUs biggest question mark.

It’s a tough schedule for any team, probably the hardest that’s not Floridas. Besides not having to play uga, no pushovers except beamers squad in norman. 7-5 is what I personally think it will be. If I was an OU fan, I’d be hoping for 9-3 and to be one of the last teams into the playoffs. Realistically, there’s probably nearly 8 SEC teams that (before the season starts) are could end up with a record like that and be vying for likely not more than 4 playoff spots.

We’re anxious too. And for the trip to Norman. Don’t expect a butch jones meltdown like last time.

What do most Sooners fans on your boards expect?
