Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner said Tuesday that Baron, a former Top247 prospect, has “had the best offseason that he’s had since we’ve been here.” Garner added that he has “seen maturity come from” Baron, along with a more team-oriented approach and mindset.

“I think he’s matured a lot, and I think he’s grown as a young man, and I think he’s bought in more to the team concept,” Garner said of Baron. “And I think he’s being more of a team guy, more of a Tennessee guy than a Tyler guy.

“And then I think he’s starting to see that, if Tennessee does well, then Tyler Baron’s going to do well. But if Tennessee does poorly, then odds are Tyler Baron’s not going to do as well.”

Reads like he needed a bit more than a little building.

I’m cautiously optimistic that Turrentine is the talent we’ve been missing at safety.

We did shut out Vandy and shut down Clemson right after Flowers went out and Walker in full time.

I still agree, McCullough is just not athletic enough

Who knows, Nigel Warrior was awful until his final year. Theo Jackson was meh.

If he struggles again then we better see someone else in there finally.

You’re right on regarding McCullough, but Theo Jackson’s play was very solid at the star position in 2021. He was one of the leaders of the the defense and 2nd team ALLSEC. I think he’s still with the Titans, albeit the practice squad.

“I haven't heard of any surgery. I don't expect him to practice for a bit.”

I hate to hear of any injury to Cooper. I was thinking just today that one of the things we lost with Carvin graduating was a guy who could slide over and play center without too much of a drop off. But, even with Carvin, the team wasn’t quite the same.

He has a COVID year regardless. They’re not like medical redshirts. You don’t have to “activate” them. You just come back.

That’s his point. He was meh until 2021, then came on and had a great final year.

Still all of these issues with the secondary. While it's not about their play, it's always something, and it seems we can never get to the point where that area is one of the strong units.
Just trying to understand, what do you mean, "Still all these issues with the secondary"? Are you still focusing on their last season performance? Or are you talking about the current state of our DB competition which includes a half dozen guys not even on the field for us last year?

This is year three for Martinez. This secondary group needs to show a lot of improvement or Heupel may have to start thinking about making a change at season’s end.
Martinez also didn't get an extension as others did after last season so willie will be gone if this secondary group doesn't improve. May be a great recruiter but does not do much with it.

Not sure how I missed it, but I did not know that. Interesting. Thanks for filling me in. Yeah, that sounds like a warning shot being fired across the bow.

All of it. Even at LB everyone is feeling really good about that spot. Guys being limited. Depth being an issue, esp when guys are limited. Not sure if the play is going to be better. No one has really "locked down" spots. Regardless of the issue, there always issues.

I believe I read too where someone had been hired on staff for this year as a db guy that has nfl experience. Some feel if willie is let go that this guy would be a replacement. I can not remember the guy's name.
