Vols favored by 8.5 @ Florida

That's a generous spread given our play yesterday, but I'll take it going into the swamp. Looking at the overall player roster and stats, we are the better team and should win BUT do we have the mental/physical capacity to do so??

I'm still (and will always be) a believer that 75% of the game is mental and a confident team, with confident players, has a much greater chance of success.

Can CJH get the offense back in sync and build confidence in a week? I have faith that he can but a lot of this is on the kids to step up too.

In my opinion (which is worthless) we can win this game handily if Joe will do one thing he's been reluctant to do: use his legs.

I'm not talking about more called runs, I'm taking about taking what the D gives you.

He consistently passes up on easy opportunities to run (which is often a product of the wide splits in our offense).

I'm also not talking about putting himself in harm's way either....if the Defense is giving you 12 yards with contact and it's 2nd and 6, take the 9 yards and slide.

It was so frustrating to watch yesterday. Milton had all day to throw many times, and specifically to his right he often had WIDE open running lanes. He could easily have picked up 4-6 yards or more numerous times on drives that ended in 3 and outs due to a combination of his passes and the receivers.

It's funny because I think graham mertz is a better passer than Joe at this point. He had, what, 300 yards against a quality Utah defense? Tennessee still trying to get Joe north of 200.

I could see us winning by 21 or losing by 21. Won’t be touching that line. Weird crap happens when we play them

I feel strongly it was a very conservative game plan and they were trying to not get anyone hurt before the Florida game.

Yes Milton missed some more passes but he did that against UVA too and we had no problem winning that game. I think UT just played way down to their competition.

Alot of questions will get answered Saturday night about where we're headed...if last night was a total fluke, if Milton has any chance of leading this team to 10 wins...etc. I have my thought now on it, but willing to see what happens Saturday. UF is not a good team, and given our recent success and returning team "should" win the game by a couple of scores, but....

Keep in mind Joe was 21 of 33 with 228 yards, two TD's, four dropped balls of which might have scored or would have gotten a first down to extend a drive. Bru dropped one in the hands, as did Thornton, Castles and Jabari Small. Yes, Joe over juiced a few and was off target on some others. It's going to happen with any QB, every game. We knew we were going to take a step back at the QB position with Hendo leaving, but his stats weren't bad and I'm a little more concerned about receivers catching the balls that hit their hands vs FLA. And I also believe we should come out on our first play with a two tight end set and Small, Sampson and Wright lined up in the wishbone! Go Psyops early!

No chance Tennessee covers that line.
I have this wierd feeling UT wins by 21+ points. Its just such a wierd year in CFB so far and UT hasn't won a game like that in forever. I think this year is as close to the Ron Zook years as Florida will get.

Utah almost lost to a Baylor team that lost to Texas state. They never had any worry of losing to Florida. I was feeling really good about this one. Then Austin Peay happened. Now I'm not sure Tenn wins.
This right here is the only reason I'm glad the Vols played like they did last night. It was making me crazy that fans were talking like the Florida game was going to be a cakewalk. I still believe we have the better team, but they had better come out focused and angry. If not, it won't go well.

Whoever set that line is obviously didn't watch the AP game
I think they set it at a number at which they believe 50 per cent of folks will bet on either side. I'm also a little surprised it's that high. I agree with another post that predicted it will drop throughout the week. I wouldn't be surprised to see it about a field goal by game time.

Last year was a very close game in Knoxville. I haven’t watched a ton TN so far, but I have seen good chunks of both games, and of course followed along here as much as I can. It seems to me, TN is not near as good on offense as last year, and about the same on defense as last year? Florida appears to be better on defense, but not as explosive on offense because Mertz is a much different QB than AR was. TN probably gets a pretty good idea on how to affect FL based on a pitiful performance vs Utah. I do think FL will play inspired and motivated by being in the Swamp at night. So overall, no reason to think this won’t be a reasonably close game again. I will not trust FL until they’ve earned my trust, so I think TN is the 6-7 range is a reasonable bet.

Maaaannnn, Tennessee is Tennessee especially when it comes to Florida regardless of the coach! Going back to Majors, I would never bet the line no matter what. It is humerus but we just never know which Tennessee team shows up. The melt down in the other threads by the whippersnappers is hilarious. One can tell they didn’t live through the Kentucky and VANDY games of the 90’s!

I think most people are looking too much into the AP game (just like the Georgia vs Kent st game last year). I think we beat Florida by at least 2 TDs.
Thanks for bringing the Kent State game up. I thought I remembered them struggling but couldn't remember the team

They also played in Utah, not the swamp. We haven't won there in 20 years. I'd be nervous regardless of how AP went. When you haven't won somewhere in 20 yrs and had the better team several of those years, it's hard to see us winning there until we actually do it. Just like the ones saying we will beat Ala is Tusc this year. Haven't won there in forever and not won 2 in a row in 2 decades. How did Texas beat them? Beat them with chunk plays, same as us last year. I haven't seen a passing chunk play from Milton yet this year.

I'm honestly shocked we are favored by 7.5- 8.5. Hopefully we break out Sat, but so far nothing says we will.

I hope you're right. I'm afraid it'll be more like 24-20

Tennessee jumps out to a 27 point lead and doesn’t back until the last half of the 4th quarter. Loses by 1. This is a typical UT/UF game. Haha. Eh, Tennessee wins this one though.
