Vols Give Up Home Game For Only 4 Mil @ Bristol?

Bigger game than playing some directional school and a chance to make some history. It should be good for recruiting and be a huge story. I think this has more to do with the decision than money.

Why do I keep reading references to PPV on here?
Has anyone besides a VN poster suggested this would be a PPV game? It would be very arrogant to expect anyone who's not a big fan of one of the teams to pay for this game when other big games will be on free TV. Personally, I never order college football on PPV. When we play a small program on PPV, I just find a web stream, rather than shell out a bunch of cash.
That said, if it all possible, I'll be in Bristol for this one.

Just saying from a money making standpoint it is not good. Take a look at the economic impact studies for UT home games. Can't believe our AD would sell us this short but I guess we have become accustomed to that.

Why are you comparing it to a home game rather than an away game? I should think we will come out better than we would with the typical away game by a rather large margin.

I swear, UT fans could be handed a solid gold toilet seat and they would complain it is too cold, or doesn't sit as well as the old wooden one with the cracked vinyl padding did. Those things may well be true, but there is still the little fact that is made of frickin' gold!

Damn I really was hoping we were the home team... it's in TENN damnit!

Tennessee is the home team, and also negotiated for straightaway seating, which is preferable to everything else..heard this straight from the source 2 hours ago

Ahhh, gold! Publicity for this game but not the amount of gold we should have held out for. We're at the point that money is secondary. If we need publicity that bad why don't we go for as many home games on thursday night so we will have the only game on tv at that time like Louisville? They grabbed every thursday night ESPN game they could.

The payout will be significant at 4.3 million dollars and a lot of costs covered by the venue we'd be responsible for otherwise.

There are going to be other benefits:

* Recruits are already tweeting about this event. We will get a few recruits we would not have gotten otherwise because of stage this provides. Those recruits will help us win more games and go to better bowls. That's money.

* People will be talking about this for the next three years.

* Merchandise sells are going to be increased.

* Memorabilia sales are going to be insane. We will get a portion of any BMS sells using our logo.

* We are going to be very good by 2016. Winning a game on such a big stage can only help us get into the championship playoff.

How do you keep missing the fact that UT DID NOT give up a home game for this?

How?

Va Tech has been wanting a game with us for years. Could very easily have brought them here if we wanted to work it out. This is just a publicity gimmick....nothing more. I'm not going to fall for it.

There's no way they dont split straightaway seating 50/50.

What's to fall for? We're playing a football game.

VT was not interested in a home-and-home when we tried to schedule one in 2007 for 2014-15. We scheduled Oklahoma instead.

Not going to "fall for it"? What does that even mean? Is there a conspiracy I'm missing? You must be trolling.

This is a huge move for the football program and the University. BTW making history and getting publicity isn't a gimmick. It's part of the business of college football. Which we happened to be doing very well in this instance.
